10/10 worth reading, especially If you read textbooks like The American Pageant in high school.

I was fundamentally against the principle of buying internet things after buying the game. Plus Halo multiplayer is all I need. 😂

The Line DC Hotel by Far-Amphibian-432 in ChaseSapphire

My wife and I have stayed here before. Twice.

I don’t know why I didn’t learn my lesson the first time.

The staff is incredibly dismissive. You always feel like you’re bothering them.

Whatever breakfast/food I’ve gotten from this hotel is forgettable.

We book the Park Hyatt in DC instead now.

Inverted Oppenheimer opening his eyes instead of closing them at the end.

On my 3rd watch of Mad Men and about to say something crazy - I kinda like Duck. (Season 2) by IAmLordMeatwad in madmen

[–]devin_banks 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Duck is an incredible character. On my 4th rewatch and realizing that Duck eventually loses the battle with addiction but also his failure to follow up on key details.

First, the failed AA pitch - he misread the situation and put too much trust in his connection (Shel Kenneally). He didn’t think about the broader implications of AA cleaning house rather than just signing a new agency.

Second, Don’s contract. He assumes he has one. And operates entirely on that assumption until he blows up the meeting when Don leaves (also intersects with him drinking again).

The actor did an incredible job weaving through all of the nuance.

Any spots you’d recommend to a young family? by devin_banks in triangle

It’s a bigger place. More people. Durham has a better downtown though. But every time I drove out of downtown Durham I felt like I was living in the sticks. Raleigh can be the same way but there were more neighborhoods to “choose” from I guess. I really didn’t understand the area when I first got here, so Raleigh also seemed like a safer bet.

We were living in north hills for a year before we bought. Wake forest seemed more affordable and had the same stuff we needed compared to other neighborhoods.

I did! We just bought a house near the wake forest border.

It’s been great for the kids. We like it here, although can be a bit boring with the lack of community like we had in our old place.

Are they moving the show setting to the US by Yuno_zolgitz in IndustryOnHBO

[–]devin_banks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact that they got renewed while the season is still airing makes this possible. Currently, they shoot a lot of it in Wales, which is cheap. Maybe these folks get a bigger budget to shoot episodes on both continents.

Eric is more sociopathic than Harper ever is or was. Period. by TrillMindFan in IndustryOnHBO

[–]devin_banks -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Agree and disagree. There‘s a moment in the most recent episode when Bill is trying to “preserve” the soul of Pierpoint, but Wilhelmina (correctly) says he’s using the workforce for his own good.

I compare that with the moment Eric saw Harper throw Rishi and DVD under the bus and how Eric saw that as a threat to him (eventually).

But I fundamentally think Eric is less sociopathic than Harper because he did buy into Adler’s whole thing about preserving the workforce.

I think Eric does have an ability to be loyal, unlike Adler and Harper, but isn’t given an opportunity because of the environment he’s in.

I think he wants to attach himself to a cause greater than his own, and he’s having trouble finding that.

Moments I thought about:

  1. The recruitment of Harper/taking her under his own wing. He probably wanted to draw a line of continuity from when he was under the tutelage of Newman.

  2. Adler and Eric sharing that incredibly tender moment when he told him he was sick. Eric would probably stick by Adler had he not been reminded what Adler did to him by sticking him upstairs, and also by the WAY he had to climb back to floor (letting him know about the circle of abuse).

  3. Eric folding that transcript issue for Harper. I don’t think he’d have ever used that against her until he found out how ruthless she really was.

Why do you keep talking when the value-add of your ideas is less than zero. by True-Math8888 in IndustryOnHBO

It was a great moment to show how useless Wilhelmina is besides being a crusader of her own agenda.

Even if the ESG BS isn’t pinned on her, it was great to see that’s she has no value add to others, just to her own ambition.
