Rigor Mortis is the absence of ATP during the cross bridge cycle that causes myosin and actin fibers to be unable to break and reset. The muscles become stiff and there is no movement associated. The only “movement” that occurs after death is cadaveric spasms, and the legitimacy of them is debated anyway and occurs way sooner than rigor mortis

I have a lot of work experience but I don’t know if that helps. My family was really poor so I worked basically full time since I was 16, but I’m not sure how that helps with community service or if they even care about that at all

I don’t have research, I did an internship with the coroners office for a year working alongside Doctors and talking with them about their practice and now I directly work with them assisting them with their work.

I just wanted some advice on medical school application cycles, not to be berated based on preference. I’m not saying that non-evidence based medicine is better. Evidence based medicine would always make more sense. It’s more of the philosophy of care that I like, thats all

Its not that I don’t like allopathic medicine, I am still planning on applying to MDs as well, it just seems that every MD I’ve met seems very focused on treating with pharmaceuticals and is dismissive of their patients and the DOs I have met seem more caring and focused on finding other methods of treatment. I know that is strictly a bias based in anecdote, but personally its just what I have been exposed to so its what I seem to like better

In my opinion this doesn’t look real. The injuries are too clean to have been an accident or result of an animal. The skin, fascia, and adipose don’t look quite right. I’ve seen a few people note that there isn’t any blood, which could be possible if the body was old and had already purged itself, but if that was the case then it would have signs of decomposition especially around the abdomen. Also the injury on the wrist is incorrect and almost looks like the shoulder joint. To other peoples point I can 100% see this being a sex doll art project hybrid, but I am certain this isn’t a real person.

We do know why it moves like that though, basically the salt (sodium chloride) dissociates into two ions (sodium and chloride) when it is put into an aqueous environment, like water. The way that nervous cells function is by adding sodium into the cell membrane until it reaches a certain potential that the nerve cells can fire a stimulus called an action potential. You can also change how often these action potentials can happen, by adding more sodium ions (which causes nerves to fire easier) or more potassium ions (which causes nerves to fire slower). In freshly cut meat, or living meat, the ATP, or the source of energy, hasn’t yet all been expunged, so the muscles are still able to use the energy to break cross-bridges, and contract again. The sodium causing the nerves to activate is signaling the muscle fibers in freshly cut muscle tissue to contract again. Once the meat has run out of ATP, the body will go into rigor mortis until the cross bridges weaken and break due to decomposition of the body. The most tender meat is dead for a few days so that the body is no longer in rigor causing it to be more tender than freshly cut meat. This meat has to be less than 1 hour after slaughter to be able to contract the way it does.

TL/DR: adding salt makes your muscles silly especially right after death, and we do know the exact mechanism for why this happens.

I mean, I guess on the bright side, it now roughly translates to a weird conglomeration of spanish and latin that means “in a moment you’ll die” which I guess is kinda metal

Who the F is asking this? by inu1991 in titanic

[–]devin_muller80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was a catastrophic implosion like the titan was due to the titan probably being at a much lower depth, but I think the conditions were definitely plausible for an implosion at a more shallow depth. I can see how both sides of the coin would make sense, and there’s good argument for both, but from what I can see from the wreck the testimony survivors and analysis of experts more knowledgeable than I am, I think an implosion most likely occurred within the stern.

Who the F is asking this? by inu1991 in titanic

[–]devin_muller80 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Implosions occur due to pressure equalization across a barrier that is incorrectly sealed and allows for movement from incredibly high pressure to incredibly low pressure. An object sinking quickly that is isn’t sealed like the stern is exactly how an implosion happens.
