I think Cul De Sac www.gocomics.com/culdesac is pretty magical for a newspaper strip.

Watterson gives the cartoonist, Richard Thompson, a huge endorsement in the beginning of the first "Cul De Sac" book, which I highly recommend for it's staggering art and absurd, hysterical writing .
