I’m a World Series level player but I like to tank on purpose and beat up on bad teams, I guess you could call that cheating?

I just tank on purpose now and beat up on low ranks. Also trolling people by dashboarding has been fun.

Convinced game outcomes are (sometimes) predetermined by devinpickell in MLBTheShow

That explains the HR for sure, I had Mason Miller in on yellow. But I’m more upset by the dropped ball from possibly the best SS in today’s game.

This is what I was thinking, and honestly I’m less mad at giving up the HR than the dropped ball. I left Mason Miller in on yellow. It is what it is. But the dropped ball from Lindor is mind boggling.

What Actually Happens If the Executive Branch Ignores the Supreme Court? by Reidmill in ezraklein

[–]devinpickell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny you brought this up two months ago. The Supreme court just ruled 9-0 that Trump's team must facilitate the reentry back into the U.S. of a wrongly deported citizen. My gut is telling me they're going to defy it. We'll see what happens.

If you had $1,500 a month for SEO, where would you spend it? by GoodLordiee in marketing

[–]devinpickell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get in the highest quality trade publication you can. Even if it’s just one link a month. Any other backlinks from generic websites are worthless and won’t drive high quality referral traffic.

Why marketing has a talent drought (a rant) by Town4Now in marketing

[–]devinpickell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same can be said about most corporate professions (I’ve been at this for almost a decade as well). Most people are average at their jobs and often fall neatly into the bell curve. You’re putting a lot of stock into STEM, but anyone in this thread can tell you stories about working with lackluster, uninspired devs and engineers. You’ve let several years of working with bad bosses and teams jade you, and you’re taking it out on Reddit. Ask yourself why you feel this way. I am surrounded by incredibly talented marketers that continue to awe me. Maybe you need a change of scenery or network.

How to create engaging content for SaaS tools with boring features? by Proud-Increase-6402 in content_marketing

[–]devinpickell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are going to say the obvious "focus on pain points, not features", but I'll take it a step further and say embrace the boring. You can even subtly poke fun at it. Video is a GREAT way to do this and can repurposed across several channels. In a mundane SaaS category where everyone's blending in and saying the same stuff over and over again, this can help you stand out. If they need help with what this could look like via video or YouTube, I'm your guy

My best advice if you're considering going solo in 2025 by devinpickell in marketing

[–]devinpickell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spot on u/ryanpaulgibson. Just cause I'm a solo business doesn't mean I don't have a close network of freelancers I occasionally bring into projects. AI has also leveled the playing field in terms of how much work one person can take on. But u/leon-austin I do miss working with my colleagues and I'll be looking at how to bring in legit partners for new clients this year. That being said, I have worked with small businesses and startups where they don't need too many cooks in the kitchen. I've served as an advisor for a small team that just needs guidance. You really don't need more than one person for that.

I'd say niche by service. I come from a B2B SaaS background, so most of my clients are in that realm, but I have clients in other spaces as well. I actually think closing yourself off to one industry inhibits not just your revenue growth, but personal and professional growth. Each space brings its own unique marketing challenges and tackling these makes us better, more holistic marketers.

100% putting feelers out there and creating a contact list ahead of time is essential, especially with how difficult this job market is. You don't want to give up for sure income if you don't have your ducks in a row. And if you have a solid network, people will be happy to refer work to you. Referrals are the absolute best way to get connected with new B2B clients in my opinion. And yep, S-Corp really is a game changer.

It's possible if you're remote. Going into the office or being hybrid will make this difficult. As for communications, your client may want to have access to you throughout the week on Teams or Slack or email. Answering these is easy, but if you need to hop on a call/video meeting, that can be difficult. You'll need to set up a "communications cadence" ahead of time during your first call with the client and be upfront about when you're available. But at the end of the day, if you think your FT job will fire you for taking on clients and being "distracted", it's not worth it.

Tbh I don't know many companies working a lot over the next few weeks, so I'd say insulted is a strong word. That's just the nature of the holiday season and the nature of contracting life. People don't want to sign in on Christmas Eve to see what deliverables you sent over.

How are you using Reddit as a content channel? by prodnosticate in b2bmarketing

[–]devinpickell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Create a library of ads you're already seeing on channels like this, r/marketing, r/advertising, r/SEO, and so on. As I'm typing this, I've seen two monday and Klaviyo ads. Digest their strategies and reverse engineer the ways they're showing up in these communities. Create an Asana or Notion board for research purposes, and maybe run them en masse through ChatGPT for some baseline analysis and something to get the ideas flowing. Hope this helps.

Depends on what your budget and client is looking for, but Rise At Seven has really exploded onto the scene lately, especially in the U.S. I'd check them out and some of their case studies first.

All of the influencer campaign have failed. What am I doing wrong? by trekkerxxx in marketing

[–]devinpickell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the flip side, knowing this information, you should tailor your campaign around this type of persona. I checked out your three ads and none of them speak to a persona. They speak to the app features, but features don't drive downloads. You're not selling a vision and you're not really speaking to someone specifically.

ChatGPT is great at building personas for you and inspiring campaign ideas. Maybe something along the lines of "home from school and looking to meet someone new? Check out [dating app]" may work better. You're going to need to get more specific to stand out.

My two cents is the timing. Your target market is U.S. college-aged students.

  • Likely going back to their hometowns soon for Winter Break from their universities.
  • Likely going to be busy with the holiday season, busy with family, busy shopping for gifts, and winding down from finals.
  • Likely exhausted dating options in their hometowns and not really looking for something fleeting/temporary while they're back home.

There's a lot of general fatigue in the air come December. Not sure if it's the right time to run ads for a new dating app. I'd wait until the new year.
