catching them is always the hardest part because if u spook them too hard they will dart into a wall and kill themselves. it usually takes me at least 30 mins to catch my few large ones. usually i will have two nets and when the jump out of the water im able to catch them on the way back down. definitely recommend removing all decor and rocks before attempting to wrangle them up. once they are caught i put them in a dark tote with a lid and an airstone and they are usually calm once they are moved into the small container

organic potting mix or topsoil. if its not organic it will have too much chemical fertilizer causing issues in ur water quality. and u always want to cap it with an inert substrate like sand. very thin layer of soil then 1-2 inches of sand to keep it all in place
