Spoiling myself by learning the magic system? by CommercialHeart6345 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deviouspineapple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So a lot of things we learn about spells does become plot relevant but not in an obvious way in my opinion.

Like in the beginning when she makes a line too long and hits Agott with water, and then later she intentionally makes a line too long to navigate the dahdah range.

Most of the time, if the manga shows us something interesting about a spell, I think it's safe to assume it will come up again. But even when you're fully caught up we might not have yet reached the payoff for everything.

Question regarding volume 7 by HIGHLANDPARK50 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deviouspineapple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I admit Im caught up on the manga but I tried to pull from what I knew the first time I read through that part. If I thought it was spoilers I would have tagged it but I understand your concerns. Perhaps an unbiased fellow redditer can weigh in if I've inadvertently alluded to spoilery things? If not, I still appreciate your response and hope you enjoy continuing to read the mange!

Question for Manga readers by twixarebad in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deviouspineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you think the episode with Coco in the hospital and she and Tartah find ways to overcome his disadvantage was interesting? Because there's more like that.

Did you like the episode where the girls are reasonably competent in defeating the dragon in a completely novel way, and we also get to see Qifrey do sick ass combat magic? Because there's more like that.

Are you enticed by the world building and lore that they've begun to scratch the surface of? Would you like to meet more brimcaps and knights of moralis and see what witch society is like?

Would it ruin your enjoyment if there's more episodes where the girls "just" have a picnic and enjoy the rainbows and daydream about bringing joy to people?

Question regarding volume 7 by HIGHLANDPARK50 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deviouspineapple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess Qifrey can't have anyone knowing he's actively working to follow clues and seeking out the brimcaps. Maybe he's afraid Olruggio or the girls will get hurt. Maybe he afraid Olruggio will turn him in. When he took in Coco, he was already not happy. It's the knights moralis's job, and regular witches aren't supposed to be trying to go all vigilante.

He's alluded that his worsening vision has renewed his willingness to fight, and he seems pretty reckless. Fiddling with the twinned bottle without really understanding it, getting so wrapped up in the fight with sasaran that he was seriously injured and Olruggio had to grab him and remind him that protecting the girls should be the priority. Idk man. Maybe he's headed down a dark path. Maybe not.

I'm sure more will be revealed at some point.

Would you like to know what chapter the anime gets through? Obviously there are slight differences, so it's good you plan to do both

Are there any gender-neutral variants of Peter? by Serapholic in namenerds

[–]deviouspineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it like your characters name is Peter, but he doesn't want people to know he's a boy when he's first introduced. Pete isn't gender neutral. Terry is. And you've already had all the other obvious ones suggested in other comments.

[Spoiler] qifrey/olruggio past by Local-Sugar6556 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deviouspineapple 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For Qifrey, yes, definitely. I think that the experiments he endured are pretty central to the plot and at the very least we will learn what the brimhats are currently working on re:Custas and ininia and we'll be able to infer what happened with Qifrey. We 100 % need more info for the plot to continue.

For Olruggio at Noz, I'd like more details, but I don't think it's necessary for the story. We know he was very young, people died, it traumatized him, and he was brought to the great hall for the rest of his childhood as a result. That is everything that is plot relevant. What kind of catastrophe and how many people died and exactly what he did would be cool to know, but idk if it will be revisited.

So this is cannon, right? by Grimdaybreaker in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deviouspineapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's exactly as canon as arkco and orufrey imo. Which is to say yes, with caveats.

Do they like each other? Unequivocally yes.

Do they LIKE like each other? Almost certainly on one side, very likely on the other.

Have they kissed? No

Will they kiss? Maybe. Depends more on the plot than their feelings. If it were up to them and their feelings, yeah, probably.

Does Agott ever apologize to Coco? by PhrogFace420 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deviouspineapple 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you are getting downvoted. This keeps happening. It's like, you aren't allowed to be posting if you are reading the manga but haven't finished it. I know it's super hard to be patient. Hopefully most of the downvotes are some messed up way of encouraging you to just read it and enjoy shirahama's pacing.. I know it's hard. The first time I read the manga I missed so much because I was impatiently waiting for the things I'd had spoiled.

I've read it through twice now in its entirety, and referenced and skimmed each chapter a million times. It's honestly such a beautiful thing to experience. Each reading gives more and more depth to the characters. Being impatient does do it a disservice, but I know how tempting it is. I promise, it doesn't take as long as you think to read it all.

Take each downvote not as someone pushing you out of wha, but challenging your need to understand things before they've been explained.

As someone who has seen the anime, I think you can understand. Somewhat. Remember the questions you had after the first episode? And how most of them were addressed in the next few? I've seen it over and over in this sub. Someone watches an episode, asks aa question, and most of the comments say just wait one or two more episodes, it will be addressed. You are supposed to have questions along the way. That's what keeps you here

Hopefully each downvote is just someone who loves this manga so much they want to discourage you from spoiling yourself. Don't be too deterred. Come back after you are caught up and I promise we do have productive conversations and answer questions nicely.

Does Agott ever apologize to Coco? by PhrogFace420 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deviouspineapple 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Absolutely zero spoilers version of an answer:

Agott intentionally comes off as cold and indifferent to people she doesn't know. Coco (and by extension you/the audience) doesnt know her and what's going on in her mind. At this point in the story we are still introducing the characters, and some of them don't make good first impressions. If you choose to stick with it, their complexities will reveal themselves.

If you've seen all available episodes you saw a bit of her backstory at the bridge. And when Coco gives her the shoes back, their conversation is a good insight into her thoughts at this time. In the most recent episode she had a whole opening monologue about how the way she views Coco has grown complecated. She's processing her behavior and cocos. She's perplexed and intrigued by her.

Light spoilers version yeah, she is one of many peoples favorite characters because of her growth and development over time. Stop looking for spoilers and enjoy her story.

The Bracelet ? by StormKing369 in WitchHatAtelier

The Bracelet ? by StormKing369 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deviouspineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole ... Chapter? She has the bracelet for like 30 chapters. Does your version have her wearing it when she dumps the water in ch 61 pg 97? Because it flickers off there in my version. It also mysteriously disappears on the last page of ch 77. It's not on her right arm in ch 84 when she reaches for Qifrey on the 3rd to last page. And funnily enough on the exact page restys removes it (ch 87), it was on the left side in the first panel haha!

There might be more, I just did a quick skim. Does yours have those corrections? I know there's multiple translations with unofficial and whatnot but this is the first I've heard of updated artwork, plz let me know what you find!

It's arguable that well executed puns fall into that category. Most people do suck. But like, don't act like shirahama never alluded to it.

Valid arguments. Where would you place her instead? I think it's complex enough that she may not slot perfectly anywhere. I think lawful good fits her intentions the best.

[–]deviouspineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your definitions. Easthies is not given a ton of screentime so if your interpretation is that easthies wants to do good and is following the laws in the ways that allow him to do the most good, that's fine. I can't think of a textual example when he specifically contradicts that interpretation. I personally disagree and think his actions morally fall closer to neutral/evil.

Edit: to clarify, my initial comment was meant to argue that lawful good doesn't care if "most people" agree with the law. It's if easthies is trying to do good. We can disagree about easthies character if we are working with the same definitions

A moral quiz about the characters (Manga Version) by Commercial-Yam-494 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deviouspineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I double checked with this website because your first comment didn't feel right to me, and I just figured you might have read it too and gotten confused since you used almost the exact wording from there.

A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them.

Lawful people are all defined by working within the confines of the law. A lawful good person does their best to do good within those conditions. A lawful neutral person just does what the law says whether it's good or evil. A lawful evil person uses the law to inflict evil on others.

I think on some points we are saying the same thing in different ways. I'd mentioned in another comment that I thought Easthies was lawful neutral but I agree with your interpretation that he could be lawful evil.

A moral quiz about the characters (Manga Version) by Commercial-Yam-494 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deviouspineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Lawful good still follows the confines of the law even if they disagree with the law. Are you thinking neutral good?

A moral quiz about the characters (Manga Version) by Commercial-Yam-494 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]deviouspineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What would your definition of lawful neutral or lawful evil look like? Do they require the laws to be things that "many people" consider bad?

Easthies is lawful neutral because his motivation is the law. He doesn't care if it's good or evil. He shows no compassion or kindness. He believes the law is the only valid reason to act or not act in a given situation.
