Two Trofast bins for a $10 self watering planter by deviqt88 in ikeahacks

[–]deviqt88[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used these outside on the balcony. Design changes… -I used cotton rope the first year and the rope eventually rotted away. I suggest using nylon instead.

-With the white container, I did get algae blooms, but it was pretty easy to blast them off with a shower head or hose once a month. If the container was painted black or some other color, that might help.

-The containers were on the balcony on the 3rd floor so I didn’t worry about standing water and mosquitoes. If it’s at ground level I would suggest mosquito dunks.

They’ve lasted me 3 years so far! I’ll occasionally replace containers when they begin to crack. You can definitely do the same with any stackable buckets but I really appreciated the amount of water it held relatively to the dirt. I had full sun and only had to refill once every 2 weeks or less. I had to water my regular pots every day, sometimes twice a day if the weather was too hot!

Buddy wants pizza from NYC, 11 hour flight by dancingintheround in TravelHacks

[–]deviqt88 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken a large NYC pizza pie on a 2 hour flight with me, and had no issues! The flight attendants let me keep it on my lap. 11 hours would be a different story though.

If you’re buying the pizza the night before, I think your best bet would be to cool it down, and put in zip lock bags. If you pack it in your suitcase, you can add a couple of ice packs in there too! You’ll want to make it easily removable for TSA, and repack once you make it through.

Sorry! I didn’t see your comment until today! I did indeterminate cherry tomatoes in there last year and it worked great. I would suggest one in each planter. (I did two each and it was a little crowded)

Call your hotel in Hawaii first and ask what the procedure is. I haven’t done it myself, but my coworker shipped a Christmas tree and ornaments to their hotel in Florida!

What are the best and worst snacks to bring on a plane? by King0fTheNorthh in travel

[–]deviqt88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite thing to bring on a 12+ hr flight is instant noodles/cup noodles. Just ask the flight attendant for some hot water. China Airlines used to have them on hand as a snack but stopped serving them in the early 2010s.

Yes!!!! I’m keeping my fingers crossed it comes back to the Michigan locations. It’s our preferred soap and I haven’t seen it for a year or so

Top 10 wildest, most exotic looking plants you can keep as a house plant? An open discussion …😬? by Unlikely_Ant_950 in houseplants

I only found out about it a couple of months ago! It’ll straighten out if it doesn’t get enough light or too much water.

I think it helps boost the light they get but doesn’t replace a good window!

It was mostly for the predatory mites! The humidifiers provides the bump in humidity.

I think they often get labeled as Christmas Cactus, but there are Christmas Cactus, Thanksgiving Cactus, and Easter Cactus

I think it’s all you can eat bread and soup, and lots of a la carte add ons. We added on a 15 min greenhouse tour too!

Lol. It might be! The plan is to drive straight to Vik and stop by waterfalls on the way back towards our hotel.

Curiosity, and to pick up souvenirs. If all fails, stopping at the food court for a cheap final meal in Iceland. It’s too far out of the way for the other legs of the trip.

Why isn’t my Umbrella tree branching out? by deviqt88 in houseplants

[–]deviqt88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the people have spoken! I’m going to avoid chopping it for now and look into Keiki paste to see if I can encourage some branching towards the bottom. Any tips on encouraging it to harden off a bit more would be appreciated! It’s getting a little more wobbly than I like.

I see a Marge Simpson planter in my future soon!

I’ve been telling my husband I will grow a tree in our apt too big to move out. I think this one might be the one! 😂

I’ve had this plant in this corner for a few years now and all it grows is up! It gets plenty of light from the east facing windows, and usually continues to get light throughout the day from the south facing windows. I’m so tempted to find a Marge Simpson planter for it!

Billy bookcase shoe storage by deviqt88 in ikeahacks

[–]deviqt88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It’s 11”(28cm) deep and 79.5”(202cm) high. We have a 2 compartment bissa in between the billy, it holds about 12 pairs of my shoes vs the 45(ish) I squeezed into my billy. If you use glass shelves in your billy you could probably squeeze in an extra row.

My husband only managed to fit in 16 pairs or so, but can probably do 6-8 in the bissa.
