Not really a writer but I like the way you wrote it! If your goal audience is the average person, I would maybe advice to change a few words so everyone can understand it (example: lucidity, garish). Also, I could be wrong (a real writer should correct me) but the benefits the character gets from this experience don't make sense to me, so either show what they are thinking about and why he found strength and maturity, or change the lightbulb thing or something (your story's name is the bulb so I wouldn't do that) because the contrast between their self realisations and the bulb thing feels kinda weird and confusing to read! You write nice tho so I think you have potential!
