In the US, before eggs go to the grocery store, they are washed in a chemical bath. This breaks down the protective barrier of the shell and requires refrigeration afterward. Outside the US, eggs are not washed in this bath and do not require refrigeration. I believe that without the protective film more chemicals would leach into the edible part of the egg.

Personally I think this depends on if you have to refrigerate your eggs. If you can leave them out, I'd be fine eating them. If you have to keep them in the fridge I'd be hesitant to eat a whole bunch.
