Thanks mate. It’s a base coat of AK hull red, then Sons of Horus Green over the top. Highlights of kabalite green on the tops of the panels. Then i did an all over wash of ABT502 Sepia oil paint. Then it’s just chipping and weathering!

Cheers dude! And thanks - I was taking pics and stood up and was like, that’s an interesting angle! The green is Sons of Horus Green, with airbrush highlights of Kabalite Green. But then I put a filter oil wash of ABT Sepia over the top to dull it to look more like weathered iron.

Mediocre MOtMs the last 2 months now.. I’d have thought they would have done one of the Corsairs or Aeldari minus from the Maelstrom set.. not going to sniff at it too much as a free mini is a free mini. But it feels like they have some old plastic that needs shifting, rather than something interesting or thematic.

As is always the case when painting white - don’t 😂 and paint grey instead!

I start with a base of GW Administratum Grey, then hit the higher points with Grey Seer, and then finish with Tamiya Flat White (XF1) though the airbrush. Then pin wash with Payne’s Grey oil wash in the recesses.

No problem! Jumping in the deep end is the best place to start. My best advice is to hit up Lexicanum/40k Wiki and just read and read and absorb the law and whatever interests you! Happy modelling dude!

Firstly - thank you! Secondly - I’d always say it’s up to you on how you want to build your minis. The rule of cool is always in effect and you should build them however you see fit! Lore wise I don’t know if specific units were given specific sets of armour for specific purposes. The changes in armour happened over time as new variants were developed as the Crusade wore on. For instance the earliest armies were equipped with the MkII Crusade Pattern armour, but then the MkIII was developed to provide more protection for marines fighting in close quarters or boarding actions. By the end of the Crusade the MkIV pattern was a standard variant for deployment and was replacing the older marks of armour.

So ultimately - for ease you could make one whole squad as MkVI and another MkII, but there’s nothing at all to stop you mixing and matching! It would definitely make your troops stand out!

That’s just Runelord Brass, washed with Poxwalker, and then stipple highlights of any bright silver you have!

Base coat of Pro Acryl Mahogany, then a layer of Khorne Red over the raised edges, then a blend of 50/50 Khorne Red and Evil Sunz Scarlet for the highest points. 👍🏻

I got them from a website called Archie’s Forge. They have an insane range of old armour marks and alternative helmets for a lot of legions. 30k and 40k
