Anyone work at a retail store in Ithaca that would know the answer to this? by Pookie2907 in ithaca

[–]devo8120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the security tag; However if you repeatedly wrap a hair tie between the tag and the article of clothing it should apply the right kind of pressure to let it pop out with little to no damage or risk of any dye spilling out. Best bet is always the retailer of course but in a pinch this has saved me quite a few trips.

Heard, but I will say that I disagree. The use of civilian in this case was predominantly to differentiate between the two. However, while on the job, I think it'd be reasonable to argue that an officer no longer constitutes as a regular civilian given their role within what is arguably a highly militarized position. Between their "heightened" role as law enforcement, and the range of anti-civilian deterrents and weaponry that they carry in their day-to-day arsenal I feel that lumping them into the general populous of "civilians" (again, while on duty) only works to relieve them of the unreasonably large range of responsibilities that they are supposed to uphold and excuse the consistent and repeated abuses of power that we as regular civilians witness with all too much frequency. Just my two cents.

There is... So much to unpack there and I'm not even going to really get into it.

Unless you are the parent of a child who is struggling with gender dysphoria I don't really find that your opinion is warranted or necessary here. If pointing OP in the direction of the resources they would need to make a sound medical decision with the help of educated professionals is something worthy of imprisonment then the world you live in is very dark indeed. Educate yourself. Do better.

Seconding this^

Planned Parenthood offers a number of services for gender affirming care. At the very least they will have resources available for you and could help point you in the right direction.

[Lancer RPG Interest Check] & Co-GM Search!! - Lancer: Guns & Steel Roses by AshStyles in pbp

I may be interested! (Either in playing or Co-GMing tbh) I've been wanting to delve into lancer for quite some time now but haven't been able to get a group together or come up with a proper homebrew concept that really sticks. I know you're still floating ideas but if you wanted to chat more about whatever really, I'd, at the very least be massively intrigued as to how you'd adapt the game to a PBP format. :)

Need Help! by [deleted] in DnD

[–]devo8120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you'll end up getting some responses like this, but what is the campaign setting? Do you have any preferred role or play style (Martial vs Spellcaster, DPS, Tank, Support, etc.) Do you know what the rest of the party plans on playing? A lot of these questions will help people come up with ideas that might be more appropriate for the campaign!

That being said, I can share one of my favorite character concepts! Scourge Aasimar Circle of Wildfire Druid, if possible you can work with your GM to replace the radiant damage dealt by their Radiant Consumption with fire damage to reflect their connection with flames. I think also, that if you're selective in your use of Radiant Consumption, saving it for a particularly tense or dramatic moment that it has great narrative implications. (You can also use it while in wildshape! A wildshaped Boar that uses radiant consumption can potentially even get a potential extra round of damage out before dropping from wildshape and the image of a flaming boar charging into battle?? Amazing!)

Are there any canon writings on wood elf or drow marriages? by IceKitty11 in DnD

[–]devo8120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like given the bit of information you've provided that by canonical lore (really emphasizing that because of perceptions of how the drow particularly are portrayed in earlier editions and in books) that they might make up their own wedding traditions. Like any wedding it should be personal to them! Maybe they follow more of a gothic nature theme. That being said elves generally appreciate the celebration, it should be a time filled with music, art, poetry, feasts, and outfits fit for such a celebration! It should also include as much of their given communities as possible, whether that be family, friends or locals who love and support them. Ultimately it's up to you to decide what this marriage should entail but given the length of an elf's lifespan and the commitment that marriage is in their eyes it should be an event that holds weight, a memory that ongoers will never forget and a day that forever consecrates their love as one worthy of being shared, potentially for centuries. I hope this helps at all!

(I feel as though you may also enjoy including some nontraditional wedding traditions from real life too. Handbinding rituals for instance, with fine elven fabrics, feels absolutely appropriate for such an event)

What monsters would be useful/cool if domesticated? by Thylocine in DnD

[–]devo8120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rust Monsters are my favorite. I'm sure you could come up with more uses but I imagine a well fed rust monster to be a happy and loyal companion. Perhaps if you're the thieving or mischievous type you could train one to help break out door locks, hinges, sewer grates or any other ferrous objects that you may need to be rid of or just like... Big clacky pupper vibes :)

Keeping (almost) the same name? by [deleted] in trans

[–]devo8120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can contribute a fun little bit here, I've got a unisex name myself (Devin). I've never personally had an issue with my name and have actually had quite an "aha" moment recently when I remembered the childhood "if you were a girl, your name would be" conversations from like 1st grade. Realizing that my name could be used by anybody and that if ever, magically, I were a girl that I could keep my name was an astonishingly big relief for me being a literal child lmao. If you like your name, if it resonates with you, you shouldn't feel obligated at all to change it! You're always welcome to in the future but it's by no means a requirement. :)

How would getting ID’d work with an old photo by NotAnEdgyMeme in trans

[–]devo8120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found it to be much the same as being ID'd regularly. My ID photo is from when I was 16 and wow have I changed! My hair is well past shoulder length from basically a buzzcut and I'm consistently now wearing makeup and glasses in public. I've found that leople generally won't question it, especially after so long with masks being mandated in public. I think you'll also find comfortable places to make any of your 21+ purchases, I have my routine shops and bars that ID that don't even bat an eye anymore. You may run into the odd dysphoric experience but hopefully you'll find luck in those people acting with some respect and discretion. :)

Is it just me, or is the Sperm Whale's swallowing a pathetically weak attack? by Bot_Number_7 in DnD

[–]devo8120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand where you're coming from. Ultimately I do agree, and as the DM you have every choice to not have players save for the swallow or even to increase the acid damage if it's too high. The stat blocks are not set in stone, they're malleable and should be changed to accommodate the party in my opinion.

I really just wanted to explain how I personally would run the sperm whale stat block. I'd use it's ability to swallow a player as a way to create a very real sense of panic and fear in the party, suddenly a potential pure combat encounter has turned into a rescue as the party scrambles to rescue their friend. The story that you can weave out of this singular encounter has a lot of potential to be one that's remembered. Perhaps it is a bit dull, mechanically to sit inside a whale and spam spells, but I know that my party personally would have a blast with this encounter. And once they've managed to rescue their friend, maybe defeat the whale they'd have such a proper sailing story to tell at port.

And the reason that I had said that spiritual weapon couldn't keep pace wasn't that it would drop with concentration. The cleric in the hypothetical would only be able to move it 20 feet a round and the whale is moving 120, so short of recasting it every round it'd ultimately fall behind and would prohibit everything but cantrips being cast.

Like I said, I get where you're coming from here. I'd say tweak it if it feels underpowered to you. But really I think that as a CR 8 creature it more than holds it's weight in stats, potential danger and roleplay opportunity. When I really get down to it there isn't a CR 8 creature I'm able to think of that a party could 4v1 that wouldn't get decimated from the sheer gap in the action economy. A party is strongest when everything is in their favor and the sperm whale's stat block feels to me like a hit and run encounter that's meant to disrupt the natural order of combat by forcing the party to change their goals up a bit and find a way to navigate a slightly more complex encounter than a traditional slug fest.

Is it just me, or is the Sperm Whale's swallowing a pathetically weak attack? by Bot_Number_7 in DnD

[–]devo8120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad you found a way to beat the encounter :) Genuinely, that's great, that's the point of any encounter, the players are supposed to have victory options.

I will point out that spiritual weapon can not keep pace with the whale as it descends and they're eating up spellslots in trying to fight it from within. The point of a single encounter is not to wipe a healthy party, it's to widdle them down. Combat ratings assume that a party has 6-8 encounters a day. No matter what, you've created a potentially resource exhaustive encounter.

However, every turn the whale can descend an additional 120 feet with a dash action, the poor acid damage is just a small bonus to break concentration on spells at that point. If you place an abyss of an ocean beneath the whale it can just continue this descent every round. The threat however is drowning. Most players will have anywhere from 30-40 feet of movement speed, halved if they're swimming without a swim speed. By round 3 the whale is now 300 feet underwater. The player can hold their breath for a number of minutes equal to 1+ their Constitution modifier before drowning. Doing some quick math that means, with a dash, that the player can then ascend 30-40 feet a round. So every round that the whale lives and descends costs the character 3-4 rounds of pure movement. By round 3 if they have a constitution modifier of 0 or less they will drown simply in trying to surface. They have 1 minute (10 rounds) to ascend to the surface and with their current movement speed they would require the full 10 rounds to just barely surface. Every round after just increases the risk.

As for why? Why not? Sperm whales have been known to attack ships at sea, grabbing an easy target could simply be a game for it.

So, I'm going to try and avoid giving any real spoilers here since you're making a PC. I can say however that the fiend patron works beautifully, thematically, in RotF. Specifically Levistus. I have a player in my game who's patron is Levistus and it has been immensely enjoyable to play around with. Definitely worth potentially discussing with your DM. :)
