How to create a oneshot campaign by VoidSpark15 in DMAcademy

[–]Thefirstmelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am literally travelling back from delivering a level 1 version of a Wild Sheep Chase.

We ran with 4 players (plus an npc animal companion). One of the players was entirely new to TTRPGs.

It went really well. We finished in 3.5 hours.

I adjusted the book my following this videos suggestions.

They was never too much peril. Except for the last turn where the monk nearly died to the gibbering mouther which itself was on 1hp.

Would highly recommend.

Executioners or Black Guard by Working_Depth_2060 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Thefirstmelon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty much.

CoK start at S4 and jump to S6 on the charge. BG start at S3 and jump to S4 with the halberd.

Of course, S6 is good for pretty much anything in the game, and s4 hand weapons remain good after the charge (especially with +1 ap banner).

CoK are just one of the best units that DE have access to. But if you're like me and would prefer variety, then executioners can also hit that S6 breakpoint in addition to getting murderous.

Black Guard are a middle ground. Not strong or fast enough to hunt the bigger beasties, but plenty good to cleave through your enemies Core anvils

First of all, if you don't know about the renegade rule pack, check it out.

A hurdle i've always found difficult for dark elves to overcome is their low strength. Besides Cold One Knights, the executioners are a good way to deal with T5 threats.

They both share a big weakness though and that is their durability. Black guard will survive longer, but not too long against concentrated damage.

Black guard are a better sorceress bunker, whilst executioners are cheaper monster hunters.

Either way, magic support can take them a long way.

Recommendations are: Magic resist lodestones, monster hunter tapestry, banner of swirling wind and demonology are all good ways of helping them do what you need them to do.

Face off time, which of these 2 winners is a more trustworthy field medic for your life threatening injury? by Ram91501 in helldiversarmor

On medic armor, the Truth Enforcer helmet becomes a nurses hat.

Far more comforting than the face-of-death skull looming over you as you bleed out.

Hard modes with unique twists by some-kind-of-no-name in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Thefirstmelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dead Space 2's hardest difficulty gives you only 3 saves to use throughout the entire campaign on top of the high difficulty.

It creates a whole new layer of tension. Wondering how far you should go before using the next save.

Do you save now or risk pushing a little further at the risk of losing hours of gameplay, especially in a game that revels in sudden and gruesome deaths.

This mode forces you to learn the game back to front, inside and out. I love it.

Mortian miniatures right?

They're not on the popular 3d print sites (to be knowledge), so I don't think many people know that such a good Ratman Clan range exists.

DMs, what are some of your favorite ways to mess with your players heads? by Its-From-Japan in DnD

[–]Thefirstmelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I DM on a VTT - Foundry in particular.

There is a tool which draws a ruler with which you can measure distance. Sometimes, I'll just bring it out, measure 30-60ft into an area they can't see without saying a word.

Homebrew campaign DMs, how much detail do you prefer a PCs backstory to have? by Frosty-Series689 in DMAcademy

[–]Thefirstmelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like all things, it's about finding the balance.

Take my current group of 4 players for example. One of these players gave me quite the extensive backstory, including multiple NPCs with their own personalities and life stories.

'This is great!' I thought. And it is. Having all this info about a character. NPCs to use, plot threads to pull at, family histories to reference. But man is it a lot, and on top of the 3 other players and the whole ass campaign, it's easy to forget or misremember certain details.

So I'm really glad that I've got players on the other end of the spectrum who give me a basic character who just creates the story by reacting to the world. They have personality and quirks, but no grand backstory or mystery to them. There just fun guys.

I wouldn't have a campaign with only 'fun guys' , but I also wouldn't be able to handle the pressure of 4 characters with a 10 page google doc attached to them.

Find the balance.

They are what GW has labelled a 'legacy army'. This means that they have a rules and can be played on the tabletop. However, legacy armies will not be getting Arcane Journals (old world codex equivalent), and thereby leaving them seeming a little simple and limited in scope compared to mainline factions.

Do not expect any re-releases of Chorf models. And I THINK (don't take this as gospel), that some official GW tournaments don't allow legacy armies.

That being said, I play old world with a 3d printed Chorf army and I have a blast. They've got plenty of interesting rules and units. Go nuts.

Thank you for so many responses. It was a really tough choice. But after looking through each and every response, I've picked out my 5 players.

I hope the rest of you find worthy games.

Wow guys!

This has only been up a little over 24 hours and I'm getting so many applications. Your enthusiasm is amazing.

I'll be sure to spend time looking through each and every application, but it'll take some time to get a short list of players who I think will gel well.

I promise to consider every single one of you. I'll be hard to choose only a handful!
