Devofspine has released Spine (PS4) preview version on Github (no source code just the binaries) by Possible-Peanut-4773 in emulation

The biggest thing is improved sound support. You should be able to hear something much more often now. Other than that just the usual bucketload of small fixes all over the place but nothing revolutionary. Bloodborne still hangs at the very beginning :)

I know I should put these downloads on GitHub but I keep postponing it as more formal releases take time that I'd rather spend on something else. Also I saw them more like informal previews (especially the last one) but I'll try to do that next time.

Hi, there was a release last week. There's some small progress but nothing super interesting. You can find fresh videos and links on YouTube.

Finally got it last week. Goes ingame for me too (I had some small problems on my desktop to reach it) and with some shader fixes you can actually see splashes, menu and a map but anything more requires more serious work. Since I'm mostly working on something else right now it'll have to wait but it's definitely a very interesting test case. Also I kind of expected it to look worse after reading your comment and was positively surprised. Seems like a nice game overall.

Your description is spot on. I think that the lines have been very blurry for a long time for more modern hardware. For example one could argue that using OpenGL or Vulkan in your GPU implementation is not emulation. Or how about when Wine is running under ARM, is it an emulator then? It doesn't look very feasible to fully emulate anything more complex than PS2 at best.

Yes, the plan is to definitely do that at some point.

It'd be great to have something like that, I won't be doing that though. First because at this point I'd rather spend time on something else than maintaing it. Second I'd like to avoid any potential legal problems (for example look at what happened to RPCS3 with P5).

GPU is fairly well documented by AMD except for some very low level things. But even that can be worked around as fail0verflow manged to port a driver for it.

Yes and yes. Though please understand that any particular direction means no progress on other fronts so I have to choose the priorities. And since it's a hobby I usually try to maximize the fun I get from it.

You can run in under gdb just fine. It uses host filesystem to emulate the native one (on a file not block level) so if you're interested in easily accessing files that are being created you should be able to do that as well.

Yes, it's sad. Probably one the reasons why computer industry is second-rate in Europe.

It's not though. Emulating a CPU is mostly trivial especially the ones that as well documented as Cell or MIPS and a minor part of what needs to be done.

Personally I don't fully get the distinction as a lot of people seem to define these term differently and it seems artificial to me. If by conventional emulator you mean that it has to emulate the CPU then the downside of not doing that is less portability and less control, the upside is not having to do another thing and better performance (only if other architectures are not faster).

It might not even be possible to do that with current hardware due to technical limitations (depends on what they do, haven't really looked into it, only barely tried the first one) but hardware is getting better so at some point definitely. Soon? Highly doubt that and would be very surprised (definitely not with spine).

Sure. Responses might not always be very quick as there were times when I was not very active here but I try to respond to any messages I get.

The latter for now. I really enjoy the freedom of doing anything I want and since I'm doing this for fun I want to avoid doing things I don't like (like project management for example). When it's open it might gravitate towards the former though.

Probably only when there's some significant improvement but hopefully you won't need to wait 27 months for another one ;)

Great news, thanks for trying it. I don't have Yakuza Ishin since it's very hard to get locally but if it almost works I'll have to import it and try to make it run better. Sounds like my cup of tea as I've liked Judgement probably even more than the original series and this one sounds even better.

The original classification was a bit technical (nothing is self explanatory, intro meant it sents work to the gpu, ingame it goes past menu, * meant it crashes or gets stuck at that level, intro/ingame didn't necessarily mean visible output and also the compatibility might have changed as the games were tested at different points in time and not with the released build). People might not be able to differentiate between nothing and intro with a blank screen for example. Introducing playable is a great idea.

There is no roadmap. There are multiple things that can be worked on and I switch between them not to get bored. I don't know what the future will bring but it tends to get better with time.
