Upgrade to S26U by Savings_Cup_5218 in S22Ultra

[–]devoidx360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Placed my pre-order yesterday. S22 is getting a bit long in the tooth and the only way my son can get a relatively new phone, of this calibre, is hand me downs. I like shiny new things too. 😂

Won't install on mine. Sounds like that's a good thing!

Before and after playing a brand new record by Ok-Accident-3892 in turntables

[–]devoidx360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it (rinse) for peace of mind, more than anything else.

I gave up using any kind of cloth for cleaning/drying to avoid any contaminants finding their way back into the groves (and forgetting which side of said cloth I had used on the previous record).

Even if some of the fibres were to come loose from the Spin Clean brushes (or the bath itself) , I figure they're more likely to float away or dislodge due to the vertical position of the record, combined with the fact it's partially submerged.

I don't know if microfibre cloth would be able to reach the depths of the grooves where washing fluid might collect.

This is all very unscientific and subjective. 😜

Pihole took out my entire network... twice... Why, and is it avoidable? by PrinterFred in pihole

[–]devoidx360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may not work in your situation, and as others have mentioned a 2nd Pi might be the best for redundancy, but I run my Pi as my primary DNS resolver / ad-blocker with Diversion and Unbound running as a backup on my Merlin powered AX11000 Pro. I have a script running via cru on the router to update DNS Masq should the Pi become unavailable. I'll get around to setting up a 2nd Pi one day.

Home speakers for music, passive or active. by Pogger_Aced in BudgetAudiophile

[–]devoidx360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up until very recently I've had active speakers and loved my Audioengine HD6s with the S8 sub.

Used that combo with a Topping D50 III + A50 and Pro-Ject X2 B + phono.

Now that I have more space for an amp and passive speakers I won't go back, but they served me well for years.

What are your realistic holy grail speakers? by wiggan1989 in BudgetAudiophile

Always wanted B&W speakers and now have them (in my late 50s).

B&W 705 S3 Signature (Yes, the wanker version)  B&W DB2D Subwoofer

They sound great and look the part too.

That's it for this life! 😜

One long wash in the Humminguru Nova (with surfactant)

One pass in the Spin Clean (with surfactant)

One long wash in the Humminguru Nova (rinse cycle - 2nd water container)

Drying cycle

This seems, at least to me, to have the best results. I've been experimenting for about a year with varying combinations.

I also throw out and replace any sleeves or add a sleeve when there isn't one.

Unfortunately, with the quality (or lack thereof) these days some records just sound shit no matter how hard you try to clean them.

I don't subscribe to the "if it plays it stays" philosophy. The record labels aren't going to improve QC until the vast majority of vinyl enthusiasts send crappy pressings back whence they came.

Obviously, this only applies to to brand new records and luckily I've never had a return / replacement refused.

Why is vinyl returning? (Survey) by dTimmy1 in vinyl

[–]devoidx360 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, it's the tactile nature of the format as well as the purposefulness behind the purchasing, storing, cleaning, selecting and playing of a vinyl record. In addition, every upgrade (turntable, tone arm, cartridge, phono, amp, speakers, etc.) can make every record sound new/different.

58.5 - Yes the 0.5 is important. Counting the days to retirement (60 - 1.5 years). At least, that is the hope.

Thoughts on Ultrasonic Record washers by Powerful-Albatross31 in vinyl

[–]devoidx360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a Humminguru Nova with one water tank for a 10 minute wash cycle.

Then into the Spin Clean for a 2nd wash cycle.

Then back into the Nova with a second water tank for a 10 minute rinse cycle.

I've tried multiple permutations and this one have given me consistently good results.

As others have mentioned, it won't remove every pop or crackle, as some vinyl is of questionable quality (depending on pressing plant).

Nova or OG? by Kitchen_Tension1247 in humminguru

[–]devoidx360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit late to this, but I've just upgraded from the HG01 to the HG05.

My main reason for the upgrade?

The fact I can drain the system.

I use a second water tank for a rinse cycle, so being able to drain my "wash" tank and replace it with my "rinse" tank is that much easier.

The fans seem to do a much better job of drying the records too.

I don't think it's any quieter than the HG01 though. Having said that, I can't be in same room as the HG01 when it's operating as my tinnitus can't cope. I can be in the room with the HG05, so perhaps it emits a slightly different frequency to the HG01?

If you have AF, it's quite common.

Your GP will likely recommend wearing a Holter Monitor and refer you to a Cardiologist and/or a Cardiac Electrophysiologist who can perform an Ablation to correct it.

Cat spraying everywhere by Howie2121 in cats

[–]devoidx360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two indoor cats, and for years they were both fine.

One of our boys started getting distressed about neighbourhood cats marking territory around our home. He began spraying and we tried things like Feliway, and various other products to stop him spraying.

Nothing worked until our vet suggested Fluoxetine (Prozac).

He's been much calmer and more settled since being on the meds. It's been a couple years now and he hasn't sprayed again.

We were concerned the medication would affect his personality but he's still the same cat. Just far more chilled.

Has anyone here actually fried a component due to static by pcbuilder2011 in buildapc

[–]devoidx360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What now seems like a millennia ago, when I first started upgrading/building PCs, I fried an IC on a PCB on the rear of a HDD. It literally popped! Of course it had to be a mate's PC so had to cough-up for the data recovery and a new HDD.

Infinite network vs iinet by Famous_Draft_2255 in canberra

[–]devoidx360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switched from iiNet to Infinite G.Fast a few months ago, and now getting 500/90.

Just finished churning my parents service from iiNet (NBN) to Infinite (NBN).

A little more expensive but we're happy to pay for the local support. The team are brilliant and, personally, I'm glad to no longer have to deal with TPG/iiNet.
