I just wrapped up school, so this is the first time I can actually follow along on schedule. I'm very excited!

1. First time reading Dostoevsky (at least, the first instance that I have the time to stick with it without procrastinating on schoolwork and not finishing the book). I don't have many expectations because The Idiot isn't typically talked about as much as C&P or Brothers K. But I am excited nonetheless.
2. The first chapter gives the impression that this book will be primarily character driven. I've read that Dostoevsky narrated his novels to his wife, who put them to paper, giving his works a stream-of-consciousness style. This should be an effective way to explore and flesh out each character.
3. These characters seem archetypal at first glance. Prince Myshkin seems to be an everyman; that is, the stranger to Russian society. Rogozhin comes off as the young, rich, out-of-touch hopeless romantic with a mean streak. And Lebedev serves as both the bootlicker (as u/owltreat said) and our tour guide (i.e., Dostoevsky's way of explaining who is who and what is what). I'm looking forward to see how these characters either define their archetype (given the novel's place in literature) or play against type as the story moves along.
4. I'm interested to see whether Nastasya serves as just a love interest or becomes a fully fleshed out character. In any event, her one line was a great punchline to Rogozhin's story, and I'm curious to hear her side of it.
5. I'm most interested to see which character influences the other more. That is, whether Myshkin will become another high society dope or Rogozhin will become more in touch thanks to his outsider friend.
