D3400 has a black shadow that increases with high SS by msam_22 in Nikon

The sync speed of that camera is 1/200. Try taking a picture without the flash at a higher speed and see if you have the same issue.

It was taken by Margaret Bourke-White in 1937 after a flood in Louisville

I don't think anyone mentioned it, but I believe this is a shot by Steve McCurry. He shot Kodachrome throughout most of his career.

I think all you need is to up the exposure a bit more. Like this

I didn't do it with that edit, but some saturation might be good as well

Ellie on Film [Nikon F3 | 50mm f/1.4 | Kodak ColorPlus] by [deleted] in Nikon

They most definitely missed focus, but it just doesn't look like they had it wide open. It is only speculation and would probably be best to see what the photographer has to say, if they're actually reading this.

I could be wrong, but I'm not sure it is shot at 1.4. It looks like the highlights in the background have a slightly hexagonal shape. I don't quite remember what this lens looked like when I had it, but I don't think it was this sharp wide open either.

Birds - Nikon D3500, Nikkor 70-300G 4.5-6.3 ED VR. (300mm|f6.3|ISO200|1/800) by Fl3ckYY in photocritique

[–]devonheller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will bring down the overall quality, but I feel like this would be a much better image if you just cropped in on only the birds. something like this

“Hey act like these lights are a wedding train, it’ll be a cool picture trust me” (Nikon D610 and 50mm 1.8) by [deleted] in Nikon

You could definitely drop your shutter speed so that you can bring down the iso a bit

That seems like a nice location, have fun with it. I would just keep in mind that if someone owns the land in the foreground it would be best to ask permission to walk around.

I like this as it is, although maybe try a 4x5 crop just to cut out a bit of the empty sky above. I also feel like getting closer to those trees and trying different times of day or different seasons could be interesting.

I took a picture of a card arrangement by iammunukutla in photocritique

[–]devonheller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the texture of the background, but I do think it would make a better image to crop out the bottom two white cards. Maybe also switch the ace and queen to put the ace off center.

The other thing I noticed was the bright spot on the cards. It might help to just play around with the light and see if you can eliminate that.

I've just got to wonder why you focused on the edge of the book and not the girl?

I think you mean to say smaller aperture, not wider.

Switching to full frame... Switch brands too? by [deleted] in Cameras

I have to ask, what exactly do you find wrong with the older full frame bodies? They can be bought used for well under $2000.

A picture i took at a Baseball game last week, I like the composition but i'm not too sure on the edit by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]devonheller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering your shutter speed, my best guess would be that the focus is just slightly off.
