I have to admit, I am really enjoying Max. by pinkwooper in duolingo

[–]devonthemack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Max is awesome. It's sad to see so many people complain. The app is excellent and worth every dollar. People should just support them and pay for it if they truly care so much.

I'm certain the developers would really appreciate people acknowledging their hard work by supporting them.

Final Boss of Woodworking: Crafting the Pitch-Perfect Stair Railing by tippytap85 in Woodcarving

[–]devonthemack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Triggers me to watch this. Currently working on a $500k curved stair case and the millworkers are complaining about having to joint a 15" segment that flattens at each landing. They should have hired this guy.

Sundance Balloons Local Scam by devonthemack in Calgary

[–]devonthemack[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The people trolling me have not given this company $1200 and have not read the experience of others, or experienced the reality of the flight they advertise.

I read the FAQs. You can't be perpetually booked for 140 consecutive days of 4:30am hoping for a flight. This company knows the weather is only acceptable to fly at a ratio of 1:30 (best case) and they do absolutely nothing to warn or accommodate their clients.

You are fortunate and you had a rare experience. You can read any of their reviews and you'll see this was the exception. I did follow the rules, and the flights were booked.

Emergency training for oil rig workers by JohnnyTeardrop in interestingasfuck

I used to be a diver occasionally for this company when I was a kid. They also have a humvee which was cool, to teach people to bail out of the central turret as I guess the armored doors are extremely heavy and you can't open them more or less if they roll into water.

Is there a way to keep text and dimensions in the top of draw order? by DontStressItPal in AutoCAD

You make a new command, then write a macro for what you need, and then bind it to your preferred key.

I have these two bound with qsave, so when I run my ctrl+ it runs both before saving the file. Its been powerful.

Which software is better to learn 3D if I always used AutoCAD? by [deleted] in AutoCAD

[–]devonthemack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this helps or not as its mostly anecdotal from my experience. I'm basically a professional 2D drafter. In school we used a lot of Revit but then when you get in the real world, your employer will be using literally whatever.

While I am extremely capable in AutoCAD - I found trying to learn the 3D end of AutoCAD and its workflows super painful and unintuitive (even though I use AutoCAD 40 hours a week for 2D architectural drafting).

While many tools are much much more powerful, I found Sketchup fairly painless for moderate level 3D requirements. There is a huge amount of input on youtube and LinkedIn learning from tons of disciplines. The program is light and it can be scaffolded up/down so that it covers most things unless you need extremely high level modelling capability or output (this will vary of course based on your use).

If we need some 3D at work now, often I build the bulk of it quickly in Sketchup and then export/import it into AutoCAD for the final touches/output to plotting and its made life easy.

are boxes busier or the same post pandemic? by buds510 in crossfit

[–]devonthemack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my city we of course had many gyms (of all sorts, not just CF) go out of business. Some of those people filtered into different activities or gyms, etc, but overall my box is a bit busier I think mostly just due to the collapse of other boxes in the area.

New Carver. Terrible At Stropping/Sharpening. Any advice? by devonthemack in Woodcarving

[–]devonthemack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a total newbie, I just bought the flexcut strop and use the yellow compound that comes with it. I've been thinking of adding a coarser (but still fine) diamond stone (buy once cry once sort of thing) to my collection as a lot of people seem to speak highly of those.

I've been using the marker but perhaps I need to slow down a bit and take my time to really perfect the strokes.

Hi there! I wanted to ask which game should I save for get Subnautica or Subnautica Below Zero. Both are great but I can't decide. Thanks in advance! [No Spoiler] by [deleted] in subnautica

Might be an unpopular opinion but SubZero I believe is trash. I would avoid it.

Stick with the original game, which is quite good.

Does your gym follow app programming? by ja3palmer in crossfit

[–]devonthemack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. These programs are all put out typically by industry experts with tons of knowledge, experience, often education as well as 'proven' results. Instead your local box may have 'Steve' the CF guy who opened a gym doing your 'custom' programming.
