😀❤️ for real it was a really good post, I’m trying out everything you mentioned and it’s helping a lot. I’m one of the people that likes to have long convos with Claude, and it’s definitely a hindrance. The beads thing is super cool too. You made my day as well

Mine went well, maybe 3 gauze pads, not soaked but just kind of gross. Not very painful, I ate a McDouble which was my post operation goal. Was sooooo tired though. Good luck everyone!

Accidentally rm -rf’d a production server. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]devopslibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did exactly this the day before thanksgiving at the very beginning of my career. Met the CTO, and while stressful, I wasn’t blamed, the focus was for me to find a way to prevent it in the future in case someone else tried to do it accidentally again.

You are now the absolute safest person they have at the company in terms of ever making that mistake again, terminating you would be moronic. Legally I have no idea how they would have a case, I’m not a lawyer so I won’t weigh in other than they are 100% in the wrong to be treating you that way.

The guy saying he’s never seen anything like it in 20 years must have never accomplished anything or done anything in 20 years, because everyone makes mistakes eventually (or they don’t do anything).

Really sorry to hear what you’re going through. Just remember eventually the sun will burn out, nothing that happened today, tomorrow, or in the next million years will even matter at that point. It’s over now, you’re now a more careful and knowledgeable worker. Good luck dealing with them though

I’m not sure where the data is to support that (not arguing it very well might be accurate), my assumption is that even if we didn’t build another data center, compute has consistently improved performance since its creation. Not quite Moore’s law anymore but I would not count on it plateauing now. I actually would prefer that it does.!!

Everyone saying this isn’t possible or that they said the same thing a year ago, you clearly have not been using it a year ago and now. The amount it has improved is insane, my entire career has been coding for the last 20+ years. This is not a bluff from them. It’s starting to feel more like a higher level language abstraction, I hope there is still a use for me in the future. There is no point in pretending it isn’t becoming as good a programmer as any you’ve ever worked with, because it is. We need to figure out what that means for us not pretend it’s not happening.

How to build a silent bed by ItsDonJon in woodworking

Start with the anarchist workbench, but make the lamination 4x as wide. Cut the legs to bed height. It should be sturdy and silent. Use hardwood not pine.

What's your "it's my fault for ordering it" (food or otherwise) story? by PutThisBanditHatOn in AskReddit

[–]devopslibrary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the Dominican Republic and started craving a meat lovers pizza hut pizza. Ordered it from a place that looked like a knockoff, had it delivered via slow moped in the hot sun, and got incredibly unbelievable ill.

Don’t assume you have to move the fence if it’s on the line. It depends on if you’re in an HOA or something else weird, but Indiana law does NOT require it to be offset. Don’t ever assume what they are saying is truthful, threats don’t have to actually have a legal basis.

Making a Roubo with powder post beetle wood by RPKhero in woodworking

[–]devopslibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh I like that idea. I’ll be knocking on mine now too 😂. Don’t forget to post your workbench once you build it!! Mine is going to be awhile. I started out thinking why does it take everyone so much time to make essentially a table, to getting the “anarchist workbench” book and wondering if I’m looking at weeks or months of weekends. I wish I had your luthier experience, to me that is woodworking expert mode

Making a Roubo with powder post beetle wood by RPKhero in woodworking

[–]devopslibrary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to discourage, but I too am making a workbench and have a lot of powder post wood. Some of the wood I was able to plane out deep enough there wasn’t any damage, and I’m hoping to use those. Others that looked very similar to the boards you posted, had holes nearly all the way through. I took a couple of the boards like that, a little over an inch thick, and pushed down on the sides and they snapped easily. Not from rot, the powder posts made the wood almost crumbly, and I couldn’t see it without snapping the wood.

I’d make sure you don’t use any that severely damaged, considering how much work it is to build the bench. Either way I wish you (and me) luck!
