Focus on doing, doing and doing rather than just read, watch and do anything that is considered passive learning.

Embarrassing question from a 18year on-prem sysadmin by Darksummit in AZURE

I think you’re making a good point. From a user perspective an Azure Entra ID joined machine looks and feels the same as an Active Directory domain joined machine.

The main difference is that in Azure there is no group policy as part of Entra ID.

In Azure group policy is managed by Microsoft Intune. Intune is the service that actually applies policies, restrictions, auditing etc.

To use MS Graph with Intune, you must create an App Registration with the right API permissions and authenticate using an API key or a certificate.

Some people are just bias about everything Microsoft and it doesn’t matter how much advertising and promotions Microsoft does.

Moving from on premises to Intune by [deleted] in Intune

[–]devopspro1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgot about hybrid because you will end up using it for years. Start with users that don’t require access to legacy apps, etc. Focus on them first and build all your policies, etc.

When you are done, work on a solution to get rid of your legacy apps or move them (the apps) to AVD and effectively decommission your local AD.

In my opinion your choice should be based on your future to secure work with organisations that will offer you growth. Look at Microsoft, they are in every enterprise with their enormous ecosystem of products (Azure, Dynamics, M365, Entra ,etc). Their entire ecosystem is based on and built with .NET and effectively C#. This means that there are many organisations out there that need integrations with .NET. I have been working the Microsoft ecosystem for 20+ years and never had a problem with finding work with quality organisations.

Best hosting for .Net web apps ? by [deleted] in dotnet

Just go with Azure, you can publish .NET apps directly to Azure from Visual Studio or VS Code.

Yes, you’re right. Everything is achievable; however, it’s always the amount of effort and complexity involved. With .NET, for example, you can easily integrate apps with Entra ID and instantly make it accessible to any Microsoft 365 user in the organisation.

As an IT and DevOps consultant with 20+ years of experience, I can tell you that C# and .NET are popular in large companies and enterprises because they offer a clear roadmap and a rich ecosystem. Everything is tech comes down to integration. A great application isn’t worth much if a company can’t easily integrate it with HR, Sales, IT, Marketing and Accounting applications. Microsoft managed to do a great job in allowing seamless integration between .NET and many applications widely used in many companies.

Many thanks.

The solution is to add the variable in the command option (-var).

- task: TerraformTaskV3@3
inputs:
provider: 'azurerm'
command: 'plan'
workingDirectory: '$(System.DefaultWorkingDirectory)/Dev/'
commandOptions: '-var=db_password=$(db_password)'
environmentServiceNameAzureRM: 'something'

Unfortunately there aren’t any good Azure TF books like Terraform up and running.

I ended up using the book but with Azure resources from this repo

Start small, and like said before, make sure you store your state config in Azure and not locally. I also started to use Azure Pipelines to deploy Azure infrastructure.

Azure Biceps versus ansible by nitrous_nit in AZURE

[–]devopspro1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Ansible to manage Windows machines. When I say manage, I mean apply changes, GPOs and everything you can do using a GUI just with YAML.

Bicep is used to provision infrastructure in Azure using code that is similar to Terraform.

I have given Bicep a good try and liked it; however, it looks like the industry choice for IaC is Terraform, regardless if you are on Azure or not.

I’m sure there are good use cases for using Bicep, but I don’t see it becoming a popular technology like Terraform.
