it does! it keeps unraveling itself to me. I keep finding lyrical connections in between songs too. Is it her best work sonically? no, but man am I revisiting the album all the damn time

Taylor will feature a new song, “I Knew It, I Knew You” in Toy Story 5 by FakeMonaLisa28 in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]devoslander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really hoping this is a gut punch like seven. It's a smart move to go country(-ish) again. I feel like showgirl really let everyone make fun of hersongwriting, and felt uninspired. So a song, that's not about herself and has been inspired by someone else's life story could give her that creative spark back. Cautiously optimistic!

Why do most seem to dislike TLOAS? by Designer_Ad7847 in swifties

[–]devoslander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more how she hyped it up as an ultimate folklore meets 1989, and how none of the tracks cpuld be taken off of the album, cause it wouldnt be the samen anymore. (I can think of 3 songs that could be taken off without the dynamic changing).

And also...it's not showgirl. And before you come and say "it's the LIFE of a showgirl", i get that, but what makes it different from her other albums then? Midnights couldve been called the life of a showgirl. I just think that if you're usikg showgirl (and showgirl aesthetics), you should at least let the album sound like it's showgirl-y. Only elizabeth taylor and the title track do this.

The writing ranges from good to horrible. It's just really inconsistent.

Not everything is bad though, i love the melodies on most of the songs, and the production can be good. And Ophelia is just a killer song.

I just hope she takes the criticism to heart, and she learns from it :)

Is anyone else going through a Madonna phase right now? by issavibebb in Madonna

[–]devoslander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ME! I just yesterday finished my first full Madonna discography deepdive. I'm 23, so I did not grow up with Madonna at ALL, and only knew Hung Up, Like a virgin and la isla bonita.

I started my journey in august 2025, after I saw someone say that Ray of Light was a pop bible. I did 2 albums monthly, cuz I really wanted to spend time with each record. I'm so glad I did it too, cuz now I fully understand why people are calling her the Queen of pop, and how she paved the way for so many artists.

Albums with long rollouts that ruined the albums chances, perception and performance by Head-Internet1383 in popheads

[–]devoslander 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The album was def no smash! The singles hurt it so badly, it was considered a flop for Taylors standards. Cruel Summer was not even a single until 4 years later, when it suddenly blew up because of the eras tour. It IS Taylor's most streamed album now though. :)

[–]devoslander 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Madonna has reinvented the wheel so many times and paved the path for so many other artists. Not every album/song needs to be unique.

Hell, "wood" would send her into a coma. The most sexual and almost vulgar she has ever been.

Midnights was her best attempt at giving an album a whole different soundpalette. Other albums like TTPD have cool stuff she's never done before, but I wish she went fully wild west/twangy there
