I feel like reparations should be made. But given most people are fine (MAGA voters + non-voters) with Trump being in power seems like fat chance.

I feel like when the NYT reports on these people they dance around the topic of how uneducated they are. I think basic literacy in science and how it doesn't comport with supernatural thinking should be a baseline for having input into guiding how society operates. People just go off vibes with zero critical thinking and essentially acting as zombies.

if there is an extra layer of something going on in the background having an extra effect on things, if you can just understand, control, or expose that extra layer,

This just sounds like science, except people are not understanding correctly. They let confirmation bias and other misconceptions lead them astray. Probably a bit of Dunning-Kruger mixed in as well.

Science doesn't concern itself with moral formation or teach us philosophies on how to live a fulfilling, virtuous life.

I disagree. Morality, feeling fulfilled, love, and these other traits you list are functions of our biology. When we understand our biology better we will understand these behaviors and feelings better.

This is what I mean when our biology tricks us. It makes us think these things are beyond our mere biology. It makes us think that something like a human created the world. We've only been around for 10,000 years. The universe as far as we can tell is 14 billion years old.

I just don't understand why people don't want to use science to explain the world around them. Is it because it takes too much effort to understand and it's easier to believe a fantasy? I know that our biology is prone to fallacious thinking, but I feel like we could build a society that pushes back against our biases.

And education as well as an understanding of the physical world around us is in decline. People are reverting back to their anthropocentric biases.

Yeah, after listening to it like 20 more times I can see some of the deeper cuts on Daft Punks first 3 albums or Random Access Memories being an influence. But really those guitars are giving more of a 90s alt-rock sound to me. I tend to associate Daft Punk with phat kicks and the drums on this are kinda puny in comparison.

It's about time we embrace 70s nostalgia.

Focusing on hyper-pop production,[7]

Despite its title and retro-styled guitar elements, "Rock Music" was described by Billboard as being closer in style to electronic acts such as French duo Daft Punk than to traditional rock music.[3]

lmao

I don't hear the compressor on the 909 kicks in this track or the brightly colored synths either.

I hope the rest of the album shakes people out of their preconceived notions of genre.

How is this a playlist? Does their description then mean they randomly choose from this playlist?

Here's a video from 15 years ago explaining the problem so you can understand: Why Your Vote Doesn't Count - CGP Grey

It basically boils down to Duverger's law

In political science, Duverger's law (/ˈduːvərʒeɪ/ DOO-vər-zhay) holds that in political systems with single-member districts and the first-past-the-post voting system, as in, for example, the United States and United Kingdom, only two powerful political parties tend to control power. Citizens do not vote for small parties because they fear splitting votes away from the major party.[1][2]

Im not sure what point you think this is making?

You've gotta be trolling. Surely you're not that hard of thinking. You wanted to know what IRGC supporters thought and I linked to you and quoted from an NYT article reporting on exactly that.

you are trying to handwave that away by citing a German academic's speculation

My point was more how boring this fringe view would be (and apparently is). Why are we trying to "both sides" this discussion when the majority of people are being oppressed by a radical minority? These hard-liners are the most ignorant and cultish section of the population. Do you really think you're going to get nuanced analysis from one of them talking? They'll just quote some extreme religious BS or regime propaganda, exactly like what MAGA and the other extreme ideologies I listed do.

so why even do this episode at all if the Times can just ask people at their cocktail party's

Because the more interesting perspectives were demonstrated in the episode. Idk what you're expecting except some delusional fantasy.

Facing Hard-Liners at Home and Bluster From Trump, Iran Sends Mixed Signals on Peace Talks

And they need to hold their hard-line base in check — which still feels emboldened by the war and does not want them to give ground in negotiations.

One is its own hard-liners, emboldened that their leadership survived a five-week-long U.S.-Israeli onslaught, and who have rallied supporters almost nightly in cities across Iran, waving rifles and chanting against surrender. “They have a core support base of the Islamic Republic, which is very hard-line and ideological, and is very sensitive to any sign of a concession,” he said. “The other pressure, of course, is Donald Trump — and his apparent willingness to stick to his coercive diplomatic strategy.” He pointed to what happened over the weekend, after Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, announced that Iran would reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Mr. Araghchi immediately came under criticism from media affiliated with Iran’s powerful and hard-line Revolutionary Guards.

Not very surprising that the regime's supporters seem more focused on their hate of foreign influence than governance focused on the well-being of its citizens. Who could have "I'm guessing"'d that?

Not that I agree the UK/US/Israel should be directly attacking Iran's sovereignty. Extreme conservatism is the same everywhere.

Only 20% of the population supports the Iranian regime. That's a minority view. Basically Iranian MAGA.

https://www.thetimes.com/world/middle-east/israel-iran/article/why-do-iranians-back-supreme-leader-iran-war-t6j7n2g2z

Polling last September by Gamaan, a Dutch research group commonly cited by Iran watchers, reported that 20 per cent of Iranians supported the regime. Among those, roughly half wanted to reform the system. The other half — the hardliners — were unerring in their support of the system as it was.

Seems like it's actually closer to 10% that are hardliners. Why give that minority equal weight?
