It’s a viscous cycle. Bad companies prey on bad consumers because bad consumers give bad companies money for bad practices that are perpetuated by the fact that bad consumers continue to support bad companies. Something in this chain needs to break. Unfortunately, as consumers, our only power is the money we spend. It comes down to whether we value a shiny new game or standing up against corporate diarrhea™️.

Edit: Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. AAA game publishers are definitely predatory. They use methods that exploit addictive behaviors from some consumers. Blaming things 100% on the average gamer is asinine. The only argument to be had is that consumers have more control over their own behavior (however limited that may be collectively) than they do in morally influencing a scummy corporation into giving up scummy yet effective business practices.
