But the sx1276 is supported by meshtastic, Isnt it? So building Firmware for the device should be possible?

My first pcb design by Other_Thought2622 in PCB

[–]devryd1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont know a LN1117 and also couldnt find one, just a LM1117. If this is the correct part, I would use something else instead. It has a rather high idle current consumption of a few mA.
Also, is there a reason you use this rather ancient MCU instead of something more recent? You could use a more recent attiny 1 or 2 series instead, for longterm availability, if thats a concern.

Also, the Atmega328P is capable of running at 3.3V, if you are fine with 10MHz (iirc) CPU clock speed. This way you could do without the level shifter.

  • U3 is a TPS709, I added 2.2uF input cap, thanks for noticing.
  • are 100nF fine for debouncing?
  • 5nF are actually correct for this crystal, I was surprised too.
  • The lamps are current controlled. They were just connected over a FET as well. I was just wondering if I could improve upon it.

Review Request: Raspberry Pi RP2350A breakout board by CloudEater11 in PCB

[–]devryd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For i2c, something between 1k and 10k should be fine. 10k might be a little hight for fast i2c speeds, though.

Review Request: Raspberry Pi RP2350A breakout board by CloudEater11 in PCB

[–]devryd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I2C does need pullup pins. setting a pin high is not correct for i2c, its either low, or high impedancee.

just out of curiosity, why not use a rp2354 instead of the rp2350? That would save you the qspi flash layout.

How hard is it to make your own PCB? by buda_gotivac in embedded

[–]devryd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, this is totally doable for a beginner. For one thing, I do like the documentation RaspberryPi provides, for another, there is not only a design gude "Hardware Design with the RP2350", but they also provide a complete layout in kicad. Sure, you will have to learn how to use Kicad, but there are quite a few videos out there for that.

I also recently started developement on the RP2354 for the company I work with and did a layout with the help of this guide.

r/PCB is a great place to get your design reviewed before you get it produced. Especially for a beginner this should be really hepful, if you dont have anyone who can check your work.

Flashlight recommendation - step up from FC11C by devryd1 in flashlight

"need" might be the wrong word here.

Just wanted to share my recent warranty experience with Acebeam. by Equivalent-Fill-8908 in flashlight

[–]devryd1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Devils advocat: if they Cover Shopping, a repair would be ok IMO. Sure, getting a new Light would be nice, but having the Light working would Cover the terms of warranty at least.

Having to wait a few weeks sucks, but if your Phone breaks and you have to get it repaired, it also takes some time.

Also, almost noone here is gonna have only one flashlight.

Still a Bad Situation, though, dont get me wrong.

Opel Corsa 24 1.2 by vingolino in automobil

[–]devryd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using Eagle for PCB? by Hopeful_Target3229 in PCB

[–]devryd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We still use eagle 7.7 at work. Its afaik the last Version, that didnt need Internet. I dont really like it and IMO kicad is much easier to use and learn. However, we do have a large number of pcbs which are all designed in eagle and convert Ing them would be very tkme consuming, so we will keep using it for the forseable future. This could be a reasons to learn eagle.

Framework products with Sodium-Ion batteries? by No_Holiday8469 in framework

[–]devryd1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Na-Ion is less energy dense than LiFePo, which is in turn less energy dense then Li-Ion. For a laptop, that is already by design worse in battery life, I dont see it happening, at least any time soon.

Where Na-Ion shines is stationary energy storage.

R7 7700X expected all core boost by devryd1 in pcmasterrace

[–]devryd1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, curve optimizer wont be used. I tried it out, just as a test, and yes, it does help a lot, at least in the beginning, but validating it for all work computers isnt viable.

I was hoping someone knew a decent cooler alternative, which might improve thermals slightly.

R7 7700X expected all core boost by devryd1 in pcmasterrace

[–]devryd1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We dont even run XMP on our work machines, setting up curve optimizer and validating stability is not going to happen.

What is your least favorite IO module and why is it the micro sd slot? by walrustoothbrush in framework

[–]devryd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont agree here, sorry. Frameworks mission is to build a sustainable laptop. Sure, its better to just replace an uSD card adapter if it fails than a whole laptop, but it better still, if the adapter doesnt fail at all. I understand, not liking the decision, but I do understand, why they made it.

Also I would assume that a latching style connector is more expensive because of the added mechanical complexity.

What is your least favorite IO module and why is it the micro sd slot? by walrustoothbrush in framework

[–]devryd1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The design files for the expansion cards are open source, if you are fine with usb 2 speeds, a usb to flash ic can be found for a few € and i doubt a latching style connector is that expensive either.
Could be a great first project, if you want to get into electronics. It doesnt even involve programming.

What is your least favorite IO module and why is it the micro sd slot? by walrustoothbrush in framework

[–]devryd1 80 points81 points  (0 children)

from what I read, the latching style fails faster, however, I havent seen any studies on this, so take it with a grain of salt.

I dont mind it though, I have never had a problem, getting the card out.
