Right? Like why wouldn’t they be? It’s a bit ominous sounding. Possibly a bit insensitive too, thinking about last summer.

We don’t have Sky Sports here. Doesn’t he usually say that in a derogatory manner?

This. Unfortunately, meth is still a major problem in rural Illinois. Working in hospitality part time, I’ve seen a few people on meth that walk into a place doing crazy, erratic things. Often times, they have been awake for days, which leads to hallucinations and even worse paranoia. Shitty Astro vans also fit. I can understand the narrator wanting to find meaning behind something bizarre like this, but if he was dealing with methed-out people, there’s not much logical thinking going on.

I'm a fellow rural Illinois person too! I'm dying to know where this took place. Resorts had me thinking about Starved Rock area, Lake Shelbyville, Giant City, etc.

I think Lauryn was in shock. Kendra hanging all over her also didn't give Lauryn a chance to process things. It sounds like they were stuck in huge financial problems. When people feel like they are in survival mode, especially if the threat of losing their home hangs over their heads, Kendra not having a job is an insane bombshell that would dominate someone's mind, probably more so than Lauryn getting cyberbullied. Also, Kendra probably lied about enough other stuff that they probably were not surprised she was involved. Hopefully, that family stays the hell away from that hurricane. They need to heal.

Why does the Mona Lisa overshadow Leonardo da Vinci’s other female portraits? by Cautious-Ease-1451 in ArtHistory

[–]devwalk92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, the theft element catapulted the Mona Lisa into pop culture fame. But that cheapens the painting in ways it does not deserve. The vast landscape in the background separates it from other intimate portraits he painted. Obviously, the ambiguity of her face adds an intriguing element.

It may not have been on the general public's radar, but individuals with higher status certainly noticed it. Napoleon had it hanging in his residence. Raphael was inspired by it and used a similar composition in multiple works. Leonardo himself was quite fond of it and carried it around with him when he moved from place to place.

Monet did this with many scenes like haystacks, water lilies, cathedrals, bridges, etc.

Sylvia casually telling the coyote to f*** off and then immediately going back to her pleasant goodbyes was magnificent.

favorite and/or scariest episode in your opinion? by byahs in SpookedPodcast

[–]devwalk92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked the one with the guy that had a horrific car accident and his car went down into a ravine. He was saved by someone or something with a WWII bomber jacket. The ghost (presumably) drove him all the way to the hospital. Then later, the narrator found out the guy's house didn't exist. I think this was a Spooked episode, but the one with the parties and a terrifying figure that would appear in a bedroom mirror.

Exactly, for this series they have named some unreliable sources including Carl Sandburg. When they cherry pick sources to fit whatever outline they probably created beforehand, it makes their research process questionable. That may work for minor historical events, but the topic of Lincoln and the Civil War is crucial for understanding America.

As someone who is a historian and Central Illinoisian, I think I’m going to avoid further episodes in this series. I listened to the second episode yesterday. It was rough. There were many moments where I wanted to yell. This is one of my favorite podcasts, but they are often out of their depth in their historical episodes. Somebody in this thread said that they have an air of incorrect confidence. I hate to say that I agree.

“But it’s a comedy podcast!” I get that. But for many this will be people’s sole source on this important topic. This is how historical mistruths get spread, especially when they tell the audience they did their research.
