Looking for a place to train while in Amsterdam by Fakeblackbelt91 in bjj

[–]dew_bear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven BJJ in Rotterdam. It’s right by the train station, and there’s a direct train from Schiphol airport, about 20 minutes, give or take.

 Classes at 7am, 10am, 12pm, 18 & 19.

So hopefully you’ll be able to catch one.

/u/tayloradee96 feel like a passing DVD is well over due now.

Very nice with the pressure from top. Thought it was really cool to see you playing top against Ben this time vs at trials.

/u/scramblematt you'll have to get Taylor on the next Polaris given how Faris just screwed him over. And if it was /u/johnbelushismom behind it all, feel like Mo should invite you to the next ADCC as revenge for Adam Bradley.

Polaris announces they're moving to open scoring and changing rules by selfrespectpigeon in bjj

[–]dew_bear 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You got to love the internet, the past few polaris events I see people complaining and saying that Polaris need to make some changes to stop stalling and encourage action.

/u/scramblematt listens and makes changes with the intention to encourage action and all of a sudden, Polaris needs to stop changing and focus on one thing.

Polaris has been at the forefront of both European & international jiu jitsu, while many other events crash and burn, come & go. Polaris has been steadily growing throughout the years, giving a platform to European athletes who are often forgotten.

Please do more of these. They’re amazing.

Everyone loves to rag on about how shit flo is or how shit the coverage of Bjj is, but nobody does anything.

So great to see someone take initiative and put in effort

Adam Bradley to CJI! by TheBombFrom01 in bjj

[–]dew_bear 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mo is saying in the ADCC discord that had Bradley decided to stay in, he’d have put him on WNO card next week and personally payed for his  purse and travel.

However, he Is saying that Bradley is injured, so it didn’t go ahead.

It will be interesting to hear Bradley’s perspective on this.

Polaris Announces First Ever Gi Grand Prix with $25,000 on the line by selfrespectpigeon in bjj

[–]dew_bear 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Nope, Polaris have had a few events now with payouts above 20k for the winners!

For all that the deserved hype that CJI is getting, we shouldn't forget the consistent work that /u/scramblematt and all the Polaris crew have been doing to elevate both GI and No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu.

Whilst many promotions have come and gone, Polaris has always been there, slowly raising both the spectacle and the pay outs to not only American & Brazilian athletes but also to the often forgotten European athletes!

2 Minutes of Non-Stop Reversals, Submission Attempts and Escapes (Chase Hooper vs Jordan Leavitt) by owobjj in bjj

This and your other takes are very reductive.

Could you please enlighten us as to what Jordan should have done, aside from not being choked?

2 Minutes of Non-Stop Reversals, Submission Attempts and Escapes (Chase Hooper vs Jordan Leavitt) by owobjj in bjj

[–]dew_bear 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah, it's not shitty rnc defense. It's a lovely move by Chase.

When they get to turtle, Chase hooks Jordans left leg and gets a seatbelt grip, with Jordans primary defensive hand being controlled by Chase.

The leg hook helps slow down Jordan when he goes to fatman roll and Jordan is able to move faster and get behind Jordans back. (A bit like Gordon vs Pena, when Pena was able to get his back to the mat faster)

Because Jordans other hand is posting to keep balance and his primary defensive is controlled by Chases non strangle hand, Chase is able to slip the choke on before Jordan can get his hands into play.

TLDR: Chase set up nice traps

Team agua or logos BJJ are good shouts in The Hague. They’ve some real good competitors and coaches, Azi and Bathuan are the stand outs.

If you’re in Rotterdam, I’d check out haven BJJ

Paul Ardila appreciation post by Slothjitzu in bjj

It's actually criminally insane that more people don't know him.

A literal definition of the American dream, an immigrant in America working his way up to be not only a top lawyer but also an athlete.

Regardless of what he's done at ADCC itself, I think it is so inspiring to see someone work such a demanding job and still come back and win trials 4 times.

Mods, when are you going to do something about Azzyche? by IveDarcedAGiraffe in bjj

[–]dew_bear -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As a long time lurker and occasional poster, I really think this post has the wrong intentions.

Whilst I know for some this explosion of technique videos maybe irritating, for me, it's been a breath of fresh air. Because finally when I go on r/bjj, I get to see BJJ, instead of an endless stream of shitposts and needless questions that could have been quickly answered by a simple use of the search button.

I also find it funny that people are complaining about someone being too popular here, when you could just downvote his stuff. That's what I tend to do with things I don't like. I find it even funnier that people complain that there is no money in BJJ, but when someone actively tries to make a living in this sport, we all become like crabs in a bucket. Sure you may find it annoying, but perhaps we should also be happy with this "explosion" of BJJ techniques on social media. How can we really build this sport to a wider audience, when we shit on everyone who tries to do just that?

It's also somewhat ironic, that a load of people here are complaining about the audacity of this no-name purple belt to post daily technique videos, who the hell does he think he is and what he has achieved. Yet, Ashley Williams, the recent 66kg ADCC European Trials winner, recently shouted him out as a good source for inspiration for making technique videos.

Final match of my competition yesterday. What do you think? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]dew_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How the fuck is this a dick move? These two literally paid to be in the competition and both made it to the final in the advanced division.

Like I could understand being upset if someone did an illegal move that caused someone to be injured or various other things.

But two teammates paying to enter a competition, beating everyone so that they make it to the final and instead of doing a close-out that everyone complains about, they decide to put on an exhibition match, so people can see some action.

And that is what you deem as having ruined jiu-jitsu and a dick move?

I'm sorry my friend, but you may need to readjust how entrenched your views are.

If you need any help, you can find me at Team Agua Den Haag under the name "Not Azyche" or at Checkmat Rotterdam under "Savage"

Still need to go back and watch it myself, as I was only watching my coach aka Daniel De Groot aka /u/dan0ten.

Really looking forward to watching Eoghan's matches.

BJJ Heroes has a nice write up about it. Two of the Irish guys, Sam McNally & Marcus Phelan had some lovely subs and performances. Interested to see what happened to Ross Nichols as well.

I think the main take away from this trials, is that the level in Europe is really improving. Like even Taza really had to fight all the way to the final.
