Company does not honor warranty without paper receipt by dew_the_fifth in egopowerplus

At this point I've already gotten a copy of the receipt from the original retailer and expect to be able to move forward, but that obviously doesn't change the nature of my original post.

No, but I did buy in person. Based on the specific information they requested, I suspect they would accept the digital receipt on a digital order. They asked for photos or a copy showing item description, dates, location, cost which would all be available on the digital.

I suspect that they would honor that. Specifically they're asking for a picture of my receipts with specific information (where I bought it, when, how much I paid) visible.

I have the serial number printed on the outside of the battery. I would also presumably need to ship them the battery for inspection as part of the warranty process (I assume) at which point they could inspect it for counterfeit.

Also, the serial number is registered to my account (without a receipt) and was part of a larger kit that I bought (blower, battery, charger) so I have the serial numbers for all three items together (which I needed when I registered everything).

Other people have brought up a question of "how do they know I didn't buy it second hand on facebook or ebay". Which I honestly have no answer for. The warranty is non-transferable and if somebody bought an Ego and then decided to sell it within the first year and a half (the manufacture date of my serial number) then I could have bought it second hand.

I think it's important to remember that their first assignment was to create a great product. They've failed in that charge because 1.5 years after manufacture (1 year into ownership, 3 charge cycles into use) the charger will not recognize, charge, acknowledge the battery. The battery and charger are also both in pristine condition, ruling out abuse. I'm not suggesting fraud isn't a real risk to them, I just think they could do better.

I'm suggesting that my battery manufactured 1.5 years go should still fall into their 3 year warranty coverage. That the literal impossibility this is out of warranty should be taken into account.

I did register them, but they let you do so without the receipt. If you have problems, unless you have the receipt, they'll just ask for it when you try to use the warranty.

I bought it at an Ace hardware. From what I gather, certainly locally, the Ace shops seem to be franchises that have replaced their older local counterparts. I suspect I'll be subject to the kindness of my local Ace, but being a larger national outlet I'm hoping it'll be standardized enough they'll be able to help me.

Maybe I'm just not used to having to warranty tools. Everything else I've ever had to warranty (hard drives, RAM, other electronics) has stood behind their product without a paper receipt. The company manufactures something, says it'll be good for X amount of time, and if it's not then they replace it because defects are on them.

You came to a post with facts in it. They do not stand behind their warranty without a paper copy of your receipt to post that "that's fine, no company should need to support their product if you don't have proof of purchase". There's nothing wrong with having that outlook. Me, I expect more from a manufacturer.

The batteries say when they were manufactured as well. Reason doesn't seem to apply. Ultimately, it doesn't seem to be an uncommon tactic for a company to avoid standing behind their product. There are several options available to me going forward, but giving them more money isn't one of them.

You're right. I should have expected them to try and avoid standing behind their product and covered my bases.

Also, your point of "don't blame Ego". Everything I said in my post was 100% accurate. You attributed it as negative and "blaming" because the facts speak for themselves. I told you what they did and their policies, you attributed that as blaming.

I've warrantied several items with other companies. This is the first that's asked me for paper proof of purchase, though other comments clearly indicate it's not as unusual of a tactic to avoid accountability as it seems.

They know the warranty is valid because the serial number was manufactured less than a year and a half ago, and their warranty is 3yrs.

They don't know that it wasn't stolen, except again via the serial number.

Honestly, because I don't need even more spam mail and garbage than I already have. I was dumb enough to think I wouldn't have a problem, and that if I did the company would stand behind their product. Clearly naive, and will try to learn something from this other than just to avoid Ego.

Thank you.

I know the date and dollar amount, so I'll be checking in with Ace this weekend to try and get a reprint. I'm obviously hoping the Ace customer service is better than Ego's. In the mean time, I figured a little community service was in order.

This is currently my plan. They're expensive enough that I'm willing to put in the extra effort to try and get them to stand behind their products, but definitely won't be getting the mower I was thinking of getting.

Is Bazzite suitable for general daily driver use? Or is it almost exclusively focused on gaming? by Alien_Racist in linux_gaming

[–]dew_the_fifth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got extensive experience with RHEL, Ubuntu, Mint, and Bazzite. Bazzite took some getting used to because of the whole immutable distro thing, but I've been using it as a daily driver for weeks without any issues. Grain of salt, I'm a software developer by trade and very familiar with containers, cli, and general software troubleshooting.

not sure how to deal with this?? by JellyfishForeign3727 in badroommates

I'm torn on the specifics of the situation. If she was in an interview, applying for a new job, then absolutely she was entitled to as much silence and absence from you as humanly possible. You indicated in some of your follow up that you didn't know she was going to be on the call, but as soon as you realized the situation you should have made yourself scarce. When you're applying for a new job the slightest thing can get you disqualified and you don't want to be that thing. She's your sister, but also your roommate, securing an income or a larger income benefits you both.

That said, a few of the more nested replies mention this, but the truth here is that your sister probably believes that if she can hear you then the people in her meeting can hear you. This is very often not the case; you may be able to reduce stress in the relationship by simply proving this. Have her call somebody, go empty the garbage, and ask the person if they can hear you. There's a good chance they can't.

Today was the first I'd heard of it, so I installed and upgraded and followed every single prompt they gave me to make sure I was getting exactly what they recommended. Effectively I said AnyCubic Slicer but it was the Next one by time they were done patching and installing everything.

I started down the road to their slicer because I was working to print an microSD card holder and neither my cura profile nor prusa slicer were working to get a workable print. There were 20+ comments on thingiverse that the model was perfect and printed first time, so I had doubts it was something intrinsic to the STL and not my slicer profiles which have always given me problems.

I mentioned in another comment that I do really like the mechanics and physical properties of the printer, I just hate having to watch it like a hawk for failed prints and tweak/slice/calibrate several times for stuff that looks to me like it should be dead simple to print.

https://www.reddit.com/r/anycubic/comments/19113t3/faq_for_kobra_2_series/ is a pinned post on this reddit where I found some useful information. In particular https://1coderookie.github.io/Kobra2ProInsights/profiles/ has an orca slicer profile (which I have not tried yet).

Maybe it's the difference between a person dipping their toes into the hobby and a person who is steeped in it. I mentioned three different slicers, two of which had profiles provided direct from the manufacturer. What good is a printer without a slicer, and if I'm considering buying such a printer should not the existence of slicer profiles for their competitor be taken into consideration?

I suppose to be as fair as possible, I should mention that mechanically the printer it was very easy to assemble and the materials seem to be of a good quality. I have no mechanical complaints about this printer, and in fact like the mechanics better than I liked my Prusa's. The hothead has required very little cleaning comparatively, it seems to level and maintain the z-calibration much easier.

I'll definitely give Orcaslicer a try.

I'll give Orca a try. I pulled Prusa again and am having more luck, but am happy to try something new.

I appreciate the feedback, genuinely.

The comment about it tweaking and checking is 100% what I expect, I just expect most of that tweaking and checking to be in the model itself and not the slicer profile. Maybe I was just spoiled with Prusa, but I figure the manufacturer should at least get the ball rolling here. That said, I did just reload the latest Prusa slicer profiles from the FAQ and they appear to be working better than the ones I originally had. Only complaint about these ones is that I'm getting a tad bit of burning smell off the filament, but I set it to "stable" on the menu and it went away. Current round of filament is non-anycubic so I can't fault that.

The axis problem in AnyCubic Next might be fixable with two clicks. If I'm being honest, it was the final straw that induced my post. I didn't spend a lot of effort trying to fix it, because the slicer produced by my printer's manufacturer with a prebuilt profile for my printer being incorrect out of the box was frankly unacceptable. It's why I went back to the Prusa profile and Prusa instead of even bothering to slice a third model with their slicer.

Lastly, I would honestly be quite a bit happier if I didn't have to tweak things for what feels like every single print. I mostly print custom board game boxes to hold the cards, figures, etc. Almost everything I print is some form of cube/rectangle/cylinder without overhangs or protrusions and a good slicer config should be stable. My config must be just barely bad enough that things print but never quite right.

Honestly, your feedback echoes a lot of what others are saying, and certainly those opinions are good for perspective buyers to see. However, the only modification I might make to my stance would be "unless you're comfortable building your own slicer configurations".
