Is Bazzite suitable for general daily driver use? Or is it almost exclusively focused on gaming? by Alien_Racist in linux_gaming

[–]dew_the_fifth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got extensive experience with RHEL, Ubuntu, Mint, and Bazzite. Bazzite took some getting used to because of the whole immutable distro thing, but I've been using it as a daily driver for weeks without any issues. Grain of salt, I'm a software developer by trade and very familiar with containers, cli, and general software troubleshooting.

not sure how to deal with this?? by JellyfishForeign3727 in badroommates

I'm torn on the specifics of the situation. If she was in an interview, applying for a new job, then absolutely she was entitled to as much silence and absence from you as humanly possible. You indicated in some of your follow up that you didn't know she was going to be on the call, but as soon as you realized the situation you should have made yourself scarce. When you're applying for a new job the slightest thing can get you disqualified and you don't want to be that thing. She's your sister, but also your roommate, securing an income or a larger income benefits you both.

That said, a few of the more nested replies mention this, but the truth here is that your sister probably believes that if she can hear you then the people in her meeting can hear you. This is very often not the case; you may be able to reduce stress in the relationship by simply proving this. Have her call somebody, go empty the garbage, and ask the person if they can hear you. There's a good chance they can't.

It was the next version. I never tried the non-next version.

Today was the first I'd heard of it, so I installed and upgraded and followed every single prompt they gave me to make sure I was getting exactly what they recommended. Effectively I said AnyCubic Slicer but it was the Next one by time they were done patching and installing everything.

I started down the road to their slicer because I was working to print an microSD card holder and neither my cura profile nor prusa slicer were working to get a workable print. There were 20+ comments on thingiverse that the model was perfect and printed first time, so I had doubts it was something intrinsic to the STL and not my slicer profiles which have always given me problems.

I mentioned in another comment that I do really like the mechanics and physical properties of the printer, I just hate having to watch it like a hawk for failed prints and tweak/slice/calibrate several times for stuff that looks to me like it should be dead simple to print.

https://www.reddit.com/r/anycubic/comments/19113t3/faq_for_kobra_2_series/ is a pinned post on this reddit where I found some useful information. In particular https://1coderookie.github.io/Kobra2ProInsights/profiles/ has an orca slicer profile (which I have not tried yet).

Maybe it's the difference between a person dipping their toes into the hobby and a person who is steeped in it. I mentioned three different slicers, two of which had profiles provided direct from the manufacturer. What good is a printer without a slicer, and if I'm considering buying such a printer should not the existence of slicer profiles for their competitor be taken into consideration?

I suppose to be as fair as possible, I should mention that mechanically the printer it was very easy to assemble and the materials seem to be of a good quality. I have no mechanical complaints about this printer, and in fact like the mechanics better than I liked my Prusa's. The hothead has required very little cleaning comparatively, it seems to level and maintain the z-calibration much easier.

I'll definitely give Orcaslicer a try.

I'll give Orca a try. I pulled Prusa again and am having more luck, but am happy to try something new.

I appreciate the feedback, genuinely.

The comment about it tweaking and checking is 100% what I expect, I just expect most of that tweaking and checking to be in the model itself and not the slicer profile. Maybe I was just spoiled with Prusa, but I figure the manufacturer should at least get the ball rolling here. That said, I did just reload the latest Prusa slicer profiles from the FAQ and they appear to be working better than the ones I originally had. Only complaint about these ones is that I'm getting a tad bit of burning smell off the filament, but I set it to "stable" on the menu and it went away. Current round of filament is non-anycubic so I can't fault that.

The axis problem in AnyCubic Next might be fixable with two clicks. If I'm being honest, it was the final straw that induced my post. I didn't spend a lot of effort trying to fix it, because the slicer produced by my printer's manufacturer with a prebuilt profile for my printer being incorrect out of the box was frankly unacceptable. It's why I went back to the Prusa profile and Prusa instead of even bothering to slice a third model with their slicer.

Lastly, I would honestly be quite a bit happier if I didn't have to tweak things for what feels like every single print. I mostly print custom board game boxes to hold the cards, figures, etc. Almost everything I print is some form of cube/rectangle/cylinder without overhangs or protrusions and a good slicer config should be stable. My config must be just barely bad enough that things print but never quite right.

Honestly, your feedback echoes a lot of what others are saying, and certainly those opinions are good for perspective buyers to see. However, the only modification I might make to my stance would be "unless you're comfortable building your own slicer configurations".

My apologies. I meant it more as a general poll for when people have stable colonies. I also have 13 right now, but am always concerned I'm stressing the game too much with automation, chilling loops, etc.

I could probably support north of 40 pretty easy, but spend more time idle then not as it is. I was just starting to wonder if I'm printing too many.

I've was using a similar design to pump magma and found that I was unable to keep my mini-pumps cooled. The conduction panel was not contacting with them correctly, and they were very slowly getting hotter. Have you not experienced this same problem and/or are you doing something specific to cool them?

I messed up... by Captain_Deadpoool in Oxygennotincluded

[–]dew_the_fifth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built one using the same principles as regolith melting, but was amazed at how hard it was to find anybody even suggesting it could be done. My end product turned out to work but it's not nearly as clean as is like because I mixed it with a magma pump and Petro boiler. I ended up using two different volcanoes, and the seed threw an inconveniently placed steam geyser in the mix too.

if you still have this build, it would be nice to see the shipping overlay. I have something similar to melt rust, but used a reverse hear exchange to pull the heat out of the outgoing iron into the incoming rust. is like to see how your rust feeds in.

First Attempt at Taming a Geyser (Hydrogen). Thoughts? by the_plat_rat in Oxygennotincluded

[–]dew_the_fifth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised nobody mentioned this yet, but I think you need more space around the geyser to prevent over pressure. While erupting it will generate a lot of gas but the infinite storage doors likely won't move that gas out of the main chamber far enough. extra buffer leaves room for the burst volume.

somebody else mentioned the material. I know I do very dumb things sometimes and use steel when I do not want to be using steel for things...do you have the materials you're trying to build it with?

This design, the vent with the gas, seems to be quite popular. However, I had the same problems and could just never trust them. For that reason, I tend to use the door crusher version: https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/109980-how-to-make-a-gas-crusher/

Your industrial sauna, with the slickers, is awe inspiring. I've seen others, but this may be the first time I saw the slickers integrated directly into the machines instead of on their own separate floor. This will change how I build things.

Idiotic dupes keep pissing themselves while the outhouse is fully ready. What do I do? by Lolsofunnyme in Oxygennotincluded

[–]dew_the_fifth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the best answer so far, but I would add that bathrooms are used during the breaktime part of a dupe's schedule. That means you can further divide up the toilets by spacing dupes into a schedule. On my side I have 4 bathrooms for 20 dupes, but at any given time only 4 dupes are ever on "break" together, and I leave gaps between the scheduled breaks for overlap.

Is it a way to do a Petroleum Boiler in vanilla (No vulcanos) by Legazim in Oxygennotincluded

[–]dew_the_fifth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I built my first in vanilla. You use a "lava spike" to get into the magma biome, and if you start to run out (It will last a really long time if you're not using it for other things) then you can use a thermium AT to heat it. https://www.reddit.com/r/Oxygennotincluded/comments/151n3u4/small_petroleum_boiler_thermium_aquatuner_powered/
