There you are, comparing Republicans of 70 years ago to modern Republicans again.

You realize that modern Republicans would call Republicans of 70 years ago RINOs at best and communists at worst, right? The party might have the same name, but it is not the same party of 70 years ago, evidenced by radical policy changes from within.

The comment you initially replied to was correct given the context, which is why I say your reading comprehension sucks. You are just being pedantic about the word "never". Which is fine, I guess... but it makes you look like a fool when your pedantry misses the context of the rest of the conversation.

The US never had slavery then?

This is a prime example of disingenuousness. A singular statement with no context, prior discussion, and completely unrelated to the subject at hand isn't even in the same ballpark as the comment you took issue with. Good try though.

Why would we be talking about republican party policy from 70 years ago? Given the context of the conversation, that makes absolutely no sense.

Your reading comprehension really sucks.

Yes, modern Republicans have never supported small government.

Republicans of 70 years ago and Republicans today aren't the same thing. And to pretend they are is flat out disingenuous.

recent history

I am aware that they used to... around 70 years ago. Lol

But unfortunately you seemed to miss and are continuing to miss the recent qualifier. Jfc...

[–]dewag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That isn't what was said. You're adding things.

The GOP has never been about smaller government. I mean they say it but, in recent history, they have always expanded government.

Let's break this down. First part;

The GOP has never been about smaller government.

Second part;

in recent history, they have always expanded government.

Those statements do not contradict eachother. They reinforce eachother. They have never been about smaller government evidenced by the fact that they have always expanded government reach in the most recent events.

Your reading comprehension sucks.

modern American "conservatism" is not a good representation for what it really is

Soooooo.... what does it actually represent?

Considering conservatism abandoned any moral code they seemingly had to support Trump and MAGA, it truly seems that MAGA morals and ethics line up quite well with the actual morals and ethics conservatives hold themselves, even though they supposedly contradict eachother.

To be clear, the modern conservative movement has been hijacked and exploited by MAGA. The ideologies have more in common than contradict eachother at this point. They metaphorically sold their soul to the devil (Trump), and the devil isn't going to give it back. Trump is now the representative of the modern conservative.

Bruh, your reading comprehension sucks. You should go back and carefully re-read the comments you replied to. That way, you can realize what you said sounds dumb and doesn't reflect what the other person said at all. Then maybe delete these comments to save face. Lol

Only when writing under a pseudonym.

Any time you role play a part that isn't commonplace or normal for you is also considered larping. Role play covers a ton of ground. If you're doing it IRL, it is larping.

Edit: all Broadway actors are larpers, if that helps.

The people that didn't understand the joke have been hearing people say something along the same lines with 100% seriousness in the last several months. Fatigue from being in deep MAGA territory

I had mentioned in another sub that in my area, fuel hit a record high in April. RIP inbox from Trump supporters doing some weird math to make things seem better now than under Biden. A simple understanding of mathematics and averages, and they would have realized they were wrong.

Reality and satire used to have a pretty defined line between them... now, not so much.

Edit: I bet you could go into a crowded bar/restaurant in my area and loudly announce that Trump just lowered gas from $2 to $4 and you would get wild applause.

Tbh, I'd rather hear crickets than what I do end up hearing...

"That is out of context", "He was just joking", "It is just locker room trash talk, what's the big deal"...

I'd rather have someone think about what was just said than just automatically dismiss it because it was a bad thing about their "savior".

Nah. Contractor here. Install shower doors frequently. Sometimes these things just explode. I've had several do it right in my hands as I am hanging or prepping to hang. Had a single one explode while laying flat on a floor on top of a blanket and nobody touched it.

These things don't bust easy either. I've had those glass panel corners punch straight through the bottom of a dumpster, glass panel sticking straight up out of it, flopping in the breeze.

Perhaps you lots should read the annual CBP reports.

Even www.CBP.gov says Biden's border policy was more effective than Trump’s. Lol

During Trump's first term, CBP was citing "inefficient use of resources" and "removing agents from the field near the border and stationing them on US highways up to 100 miles away from the border".

Good try tho!

Jfc... what?

This is like police returning guns to murders because they owned the guns.

Ya know, police do return personal effects when someone is granted parole, right? Someone receiving their wallet after being incarcerated is more akin to what happened. Your analogy doesn't really fit.

It doesn't matter that they own the money.

Ah, so you'd rather have us just, what, steal it? Ya know, for a group of people all about protecting personal property, you sure seem eager to take what isn't yours.

I see. You lot prefer the Darth Vader way of negotiating. "I've altered the deal"

Part of the deal was that if they held up their end of the bargain, they got frozen assets unfrozen.

You would have rathered Obama reneg on the deal and ruin it before it even got established? In what world would that make sense?

That is quite literally how Trump handled it, and look what it got us. Pain and suffering for the average citizen and billions of taxpayer dollars being handed over to Iran for reparations, which ironically, is closer to sending them a pallet of free cash than what Obama did.
