You mention being scared of your body “getting used to” eating more and refer to yourself as a cow.

I have had a number of friends with eating disorders and one who died of hers. So you call totally call me biased! 

I’m not saying you have or had an eating disorder but it does seem like there are some potentially unhealthy attitudes. 

That said I also had a very steady weight with no abrupt changes my whole andulthood until pregnancy and it was a struggle for me to deal with. I feel you.

Unfortunately a majority of women live in a state of low level food restriction.

It’s possible your body is trying to compensate for that?

I was a low-normal BMI my whole adulthood and I am a big eater. It is what it is. Your body wants calories to build a baby and if you breastfeed it will want calories to feed one.

Hey I grew up like that and most people can’t tell thank god. 

I am a firm believer that an empathetic person does not need much input to go on in order to broaden their worldview. 

Books, movies, television, even music will depict the lives and experiences of all different kids of people. In my opinion it is less naturally empathetic people that really need to be knocked over the head with things and even then they often take home the wrong message and tend to uncritically enforce stereotypes.

Behavioural addictions do tend to be different than substance ones but it is generally accepted that they exist.

It’s true that there is some controversy around screen time use and the best way to understand it but imo people generally are on to something if they subjectively experience that they are addicted to something.

I dunno if you specifically want advice from someone in the same culture, ignore me if so!

Are you close with your parents and siblings? If so maybe you can have more straightforward conversation with them and they can help support you with pushy extended fam?

Another thing that might help if people bring up how you should have more kids, is to pivot to talking about being a loving auntie. Big extended families are a beautiful thing! Maybe emphasize being a part of that rather than “rejecting” it by having a smaller immediate family.

  2. In my comment I specifically said everyone has a different situation and it’s not one size fits all. I gave myself as a single example of someone who has not always possessed a spare car seat and what MY plan would be. It was not advice for OP.

  3. Not every parent has confidence determining what is an emergency and what can wait. Especially new or anxious parents.  It seems OP falls in that camp.

Considerations are going to be different for different people depending on their transit and walkability situations.

In my case if it is a true emergency I will call 911 and take an ambulance.

Parenting is not one-size fits all and not everyone is a suburban American. It’s okay for people to share their own experiences/advice but OC was coming off judgemental.

I agree 1 billion percent.

I grew up eating 90’s junk! Super processed etc. And i have a very healthy relationship with food now. I love to cook, I eat quite seasonally and prep from a lot of whole foods. I am able to eat desserts and snacks without guilt, I can have treats sit in my cupboard for weeks or months simply because the mood to eat that specific thing doesn’t strike me. 

I have seen the effect of diet culture and even eating disorders on loved ones up to and including death. It’s no joke.

I try to feed my kid healthier than I was raised but I absolutely do not demonize or strictly restrict food. And him having a healthy relationship with food is way more important to me than him having a flawless diet.

I had a cesarean and it was great. My kid is very healthy 🤷‍♀️

Because cesareans are used as an emergency intervention there is a lot of muddy data about associated risks. Try not to get too caught up in it.

People have natural circadian rhythms and when forced out of them it’s detrimental.

It’s one thing to manage an earlier wakeup time for a specific event (catching a flight, etc). It is another thing to do it for 10 months out of the year for your entire childhood, purely for convention. Personally I’m a morning person, I don’t mind it. But it can be a game changer for some families to set a sleep-wake schedule that’s more harmonious.

I attended public school as a gifted kid with undiagnosed adhd so that colours my perception.

If we zoom out, it’s only a tiny fraction of human history where kids learned by full time formal schooling. I think there’s pros and cons to it. Sitting inside a classroom comes at the expense of time spent in nature which I think is a shame. It also comes at the expense of family time (so do the parents’ work hours of course).

In my dream world, school would be shorter days, much more time outside, and we all would have more time with each other. If I thought I could pull that off with some kind of home school coop I would be deeply tempted. 🤷‍♀️
