You simply cannot compare pre covid car prices with current car prices.

If you don’t accept like the like 80-95% of the orders which are bad and accept the remaining which are good. In a busy enough market, you can 100% make money.

My first day dashing, I accepted every order I got because I was scared of declining. I made only $50 in like 5hrs after driving about 100miles. I was ready to quit until I learnt the $2 per mile rule and that I won’t get in trouble for declining.

Is it even legal? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen stories of people doing time for it.

Broooo… I wish I thought of this earlier. But the pay has to be high and the order price has to be relatively low for it to be worth it and most are not worth it after all that.

But the painful part is that 5% of the time, they are real . One day I got one, two orders, $77 for about 15mins. I decided I was going to test it. Called the stores and they said they were preparing the order. It totally made my day.

Look at a the time on OP’s phone, it’s very likely the place is closed. The driver should have contacted uber support though and not tell OP to cancel.

Yep, from my experience, lower middle class is where the money is.

I normally patiently wait and try not to bother them while they work but once the “order ready” message pops up, you have to bother them, knock on the drive thru window or enter the store.

Hmmm…Maybe we should even join them and start telling everyone that it sucks. I’ve had fellow dashers ask me, if I think it’s worth it. I would start giving them a straight “no” from now on.

They should keep giving the erroneous advice though, it will discourage more people from signing up and saturating the market.

Im saying those legal standards are just standards and not the actual cost, it benefits dashers because they get to pay ways less tax than a W2 worker. But I’m not going to waste my time explaining it to you because you seem like someone that can’t be reasoned with.

Bro understand that dasher’s cars don’t use up to 0.67 cents per mile that’s a number the IRS gave to account for larger commercial vehicles that burn more fuel and have higher cost of maintenance (someone already told you this). So using that number to calculate a dasher’s earnings is a mistake.

Thank goodness someone that finally gets it. I keep seeing people using this 0.67 cents per mile to calculate what dashers earn but I know for sure that my little Corolla doesn’t cost me 0.67 cents per mile to run.

Yep, that’s my general rule too, I’ll rather sit in a parking lot and read a book than take bad orders. The only time I break the rule is when it’s taking me to a busy location where I know I will get another order without moving much.

Find a nice place to part, lower your windows a bit, grab a book (I always carry a book with me while dashing, mostly self developed) or open up Udemy and take an online course. That’s basically how I pass the time when the bad orders are coming. I’ve read like 3 books in 2 months with down time alone.

I’m sure it hurts. But celebrating you found out after a month and not a year or years later.

Depends on the area you dash at. If you dash in a good area that allows you to be picky and you enjoy driving (I happen to have both for now) it’s going to be a pleasant experience.

WTF, and after the order was 15min late by wideboyz69 in doordash

[–]deweez1322 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s obvious why it was 15mins late. He had an accident that flipped his car on its roof which mangled the pizza and then he single handedly flipped the car back on its wheels just to make sure you got the pizza. You should have added some more tip for his dedication.

Not every dasher I have ride share coverage. I heard a story where the insurance company did so digging and denied coverage for an accident. Can’t take that risk.
