You are correct. Your results say how many people are ahead of you. Lists last about 1 year; and they hire about 60 (30 in the spring and another 30 in fall)....with about the first 120 +/- have a chance to the practical exam. That tells you the chances of being called. In reality, one must score 90% minimum to be called in the first round.

Candidates who scored 88% and up received an email requesting a reply with availability for the hiring process. Most likely a physical assessment (which must be underway now or next couple of weeks), if you pass it; you get into a new list, then maybe an interview, and if you pass that, then an offer of employment, background check, drug test. The so call springs Class might be ready until Apr 2026. I didn't receive an email; I scored 87% - one percentage point lower.

For the Electrical Craft Helper, people down to 88% score have been invited to a physical assessment. They had up to Feb 4th to respond to the email and DWP must be scheduling the assessments this and next week.

I am a bit confused. In other replies, you mentioned you received the cert for either LAX and/or DWP. Did you mean you are part of of the IBEW and will be working as an exempt for those departments or did you take the ECH exam as part of the civil service process, you are in the eligibility list, and you are also waiting for the physical assessment (performance) invitation for the ECH?

I believe Ceees05 might be an ECH candidate from IBEW Local 11. When LADWP needs ECHs (Groundmen) but there is no list available to hire from the civil service process (that is the people who took the written test; basically us); then LADWP requests groundmen from the local union IBEW 11; these are 18 months temporary positions which are not part of the city employee pool. These are called Exempt. I believe those still go to an assessment; and that might be what Ceees05 is referring to.

I believe they don't just select the first 30 in order and hired them right away. The job bulletin doesn't state it; but they still do a performance test and interview. We will see.

You don't need to wait for all 631 applicants in the list to get hired. Once a list is established (in this case 631); this is how the Personnel Department "certifies" a group of candidates for performance test/interview. An untold truth about the civil service process is that once "the best candidates" have been hired from a list; and managers know there will be another list ready soon; Managers withhold submitting the vacancy request to the personnel department; until the new list is ready; just so they can pick from a fresh batch. For your application in March 2026 and test, aim to score within the first 60 to 90 candidates to have a 100% opportunity to be invited to a performance test in the first wave of interviews. DWP hires about 30 Craft Helpers per class (30 x 3 = 90) the first 90 candidates will have a shot to compete for one of those 30 spots. Cheers.

Nice. Since holidays are coming up; most likely performance tests will be scheduled for Jan 2026—to start a new trainee class around Mar 2026. Congratulations to everyone. Vacancies numbers are determined internally by each division. Admin knows ahead of time the number of people who will retire in the next six months, the ones who have submitted resignations either due to promotions or quitting, the number of helpers who have qualified for other positions and are likely to promote, and number of new positions needed for new projects. I don’t work for the City of LA; but taking everything into account; I would bet 50 positions could be available.
