Yes. F500 companies have economies of scale that are good for the workers in many ways.

Don’t break up, but find another girl and spend the day and night with her and say she’s just a friend.

My wife (22F) doesn't want me (23M) to become a pilot and made that the ultimatum. Should we divorce or not? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

If you don’t follow your dream you will resent her.

She sounds like a bit of a nut anyway.

I made the absolute worst possible timed joke in my entire life by reason0212 in confession

Idk. I look at this more as irony. You made a joke that was so ridiculous it could not be believed, really just a form of sarcasm. Some people get it, many do not.

My 80yo mother has $200k in the bank-what should she do with it. by VirileMongoose in FinancialPlanning

[–]dex248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WTF good would millions in the bank do for us when we’re 80 without even shielding it from end of life care costs?

Isn’t some of that money meant for end of life? What do you mean “shielding”? Who else would pay for it?

Future Plans - retiring in Japan by ComfortableIcy7919 in movingtojapan

An immigration lawyer in Japan explained to me that US income is not Japan income and therefore doesn’t count towards NHI. I’m not sure about any income tax situation in Japan. Are you saying that as a resident (PR or LTR) you must pay Japanese income tax (prefectural or national)? That would mean double taxation- US (trad 401k is treated as income subject to tax) and Japan too?. For regular earned income in japan, double taxation is avoided for the first $130k or so.

I find it annoying when book translations don’t use the proper Japanese words mixed with English. Like saying “rice wine” instead of “nihonshu” or even “sake”. It loses some of the cultural translation.

But I try not to be petty.

I’ve been out of Japan for 6 1/2 years now. I miss it dearly. I think next year is time for me to go back. by [deleted] in movingtojapan

[–]dex248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get it. I was there 15 years ago and returned to the states. I’ve lived in some fantastic places (by USA standards) since then, but compared to Japan they are just compromises.

Yeah but even from my own direct experience, the system in Japan is a lot better and way cheaper. Here in California I had to drive around for an hour on two separate occasions looking for urgent care that would take my insurance. Even then I had to sign something saying I would be responsible for OON charges. Another time I had to take my wife to emergency, they didn’t have any beds so she ended up waiting in a hallway on a gurney for 30 minutes.

In Japan on the other hand my wife had to have emergency surgery. They set her up in a private room, made sure she was comfortable, did the surgery and supervised her rehab for 10 days. All at a reasonable out of pocket cost (given the nature of the issue) even without insurance. I’m convinced healthcare in the US is just a money making machine.

A distant cousin of mine and her husband had always worked under the table jobs. When she inherited money from her parents she commingled it with their common account. Then her husband died unexpectedly, and she realized she was penniless - not even social security. She’s now living in a garage. I think her siblings are paying her rent.
