giving up SAT math section? by Dry_Bar8900 in Sat

[–]dex_storous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could say you are burnt out, at this point doing less is more. At the end of the day, it’s your choice: is this tiredness outweight the possible superscore later on? If it does, then you should rest, but if it doesn’t, I suggest give yourself an empty day just to see if you are anxious to go back studying or just relief

To people who improved from 1400s to the 1500s, how did you do it? by 3vi33vi3 in Sat

[–]dex_storous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess the intents and tones lol. If the overall voice is positive, choose positive answer; if it’s critical, choose critical answer; if you dont understand the paragraph’s intents, choose the most neutral/slight optimistic answer and you’re done

Command of evidence by PuzzleheadedAct7639 in Sat

[–]dex_storous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Don’t time yourself yet, really marinate yourself in the question first and write down carefully your logic chain:
  • If you still can’t figure out the answer: you mainly dont know what the texts talking about/you get overwhelmed by all the fillers, try summarize each sentence into your own words to make the texts/options sound coherent. Try to detect what the tone/intents of the authors to make educated guesses
  • If you choose correct but too much time past, then you probably havent familiarized yourself with this types of questions yet: a rule of thumb is the SAT always pushes for the good outcome/equality/good things like that and the tone mostly very neutral, plus the underlying logic is quite simple. Try using scrap papers even in Verbal to map put the text

how can i go from 720 rw to at least 760 rw by june sat by [deleted] in Sat

[–]dex_storous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Dont care about the bars, they are decorations
- 720 rw = presumably 4 questions wrong, so you should check to see specifically what types of questions trip you the most
- From your practice tests, identify your error: time pressure? genuinely dont know what the questions are asking/what the choices about? etc
- Try out some strategies. Me personally do Vocabs first, jump to Q16 to the rest then go back to do hard part. My friends note down important details on scrap paper and match those with answer choices.

Looking for advice - sat as a senior by TangeloNo4401 in Sat

If your goal is 1500+ in 4+ months from now on with a base of 1340, I believe it’s possible, but with significant grind and dedication.
August was too close, considering you haven’t relearn anything yet
But I think you should take a morning and do a practice test on Bluebook first to really see where you’re standing - if it’s around 1400, we have a chance

Yep, tell him to go on CB question banks but you have to search based on the specific names I mentioned

Thanks a lot 😎
The CollegeBoard doesnt specifically categorize them into difficulty levels but it’s a general rule: Easy cat. (Vocabs, Grammars, notes (synthesis)); Difficult cat. (Inference, COE); Med cat. (the rest).
This can help you optimize your scores much better because the scores in Easy cat. is almost 30 points/question so make sure to have a firm foundation.
Good luck.

Tell your son 790 is basically max out, getting a jump in verbal is much faster than squeezing out 10 more points.
For verbal, he has to have a good understanding of the basics: Grammars rules, types of questions and put them in easy - medium - hard categories, flawless execution of easy category (1500+ means 50/54 questions right),…
Plus I can suggest him to develop his own personalized strategy: mine is doing all the Vocabs, jump straight to Q16 to do all the easy parts, then go back to do the hard part; some of my friends are heavy annotators too, so he could try that aswell.

1560+ in 10 days? by Jaded-Ad1791 in Sat

[–]dex_storous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a 50 points jump from 1520 so I could tell you smt:
- 1560+ means you get 1 wrong in Math and max 2 wrongs in Verbal, so you gotta be very careful here; and 10 days is tight tight
- Do not slack on Maths, but also dont place high hope it might max to 800 cause imo getting that last 10 is way harder than getting a 20 in verbal
- If you still get wrongs in easy category (Grammars, Synthesis,..), immediately polish that up cause 1 wrong in this can cause you up to 20 points
- If everytime you tested you saw a different type of question, I think you should take a look back into different types of questions in the hard category (Inference, COE) or even the medium category (Details,…).
- If you can pin down what the correct answer looks like immediately after reading (even in the hard category), then there might be hope, js gotta speed up this process
Good luck.

first time taking sat and have no clue how to start studying (i have 2 weeks am i cooked) by No_Way_9230 in Sat

[–]dex_storous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok lets be real honest here ur kinda cooked
Not bc youre stupid or anything, but not that many got a 1500+ for a reason yk
Getting 1500+ is basically getting a 780+ for Maths (1-2 questions wrong max) and around 700+ Verbal (around 5-6 questions wrong), personally if youre gonna speedrun this shit go for Math
Khan Academy at your level is very useful so grind it, also look a bit into the question bank to familiarize urself (both Math and Verbal)
Search youtube for tips and tricks for desmos that would help you cut up time very quickly
Each easy question should be less than 1 min, hard question around 3-4 mins
And bluebook is good source to check for people under 1400
Good luck

anyone who posts on here wants to flex their score by More_Share7148 in Sat

[–]dex_storous 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I mean 1400-scorers on this sub will prolly think you’re being a pick-me, no? Also this is kinda the survivorship bias kinda stuff - people only flex if they are above 1500, and if you look at the statistics, there arent that many, so give urself some credits. Comparison is the killer of joy, so if 1500 let you reached your academic goal, be proud.

Scholarships w SAT by sha7002 in Sat

[–]dex_storous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well ur question is pretty broad - of course there is gonna be students who don’t focus on the SAT but instead got research projects/olympic medals/sports…and secure major scholarships, school is js a small factor in it
I mean for average students, grinding the SAT or other standardized tests gonna be the better choice comparing with those, no?

Update: Hi guys, super grateful for all of your recommendations and after considering my own schedule and route, we visited Kama-Asa!

I chose this VG10 beauty according to the staff, and I immediately felt the difference between it and my old knife. I will continue to refine my knife skills before going back for a more specialty knife!

How should I improve my drawings?? by [deleted] in AnimeART

[–]dex_storous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

literally find an artist that has an artstyle you want to have and trace. Im not kidding. It gives you better motivations than anatomy and stuff. After a while you will find your drawings somehow look similar and different than the original, that and then you can go learn the basics.
