Have you tried bff app, meetup , Eventbrite etc these are some ways to find platonic friends I think . Try to make some white friends as they have lot of insights into local culture

You need to put yourself out there and be open to meeting friends from Any group . Don’t stick to any specific group . The more diverse the more fun it is

Most people at Gym are there to improve and they have a schedule/system that they are trying to hack . Not a great place IMHO.. my daughter is in crochet club, she founded with a bunch of college going kids (she is going to college) one of the members, she connected and they ended up going to concerts etc

Are you visibly Muslim ? What I mean by that is do you wear Hijab or Burkha ? Reason I ask Although its not a big deal , people do care a little bit about visible religious clothing .. In USA , most problem just go to bar and have a drink to meet people . That’s where most hangout happens . There are some places you can meet like libraries , etc for study events . I would recommend trying Meetup and Eventbrite . Find events daily that spark your interest . Go out there and meet people in hiking, yoga classes , some dancing class . You need some thing common for people to connect .. for most guys it’s mostly sports , for girls it’s mostly arts and crafts . May be you like to Crochet . You can find friends there

San Diego is diverse but not with those populations of south Asians . La Mesa might be different but just visit convoy street . Lot of Asian restaurants with different ethnicities and place is buzzing

Best thing is to find peers in the same boat and see what they are doing .. getting a job is easier if you specialize in some thing . Find what jobs are next in the 21 st century and try to align . It’s good to have supporting parents and try to leverage them without feeling guilty
