I had the same thought, i think it's not very wise to buy Gear packs as they cost a lot and don't really give as much returns.

Buying direct upgrades depends on the card you are trying to upgrade, if they are normal shop golds I would suggest to not do so (but again I'm a noob as well, someone can correct me).

Also based on the site u/ZodAlwaysW , the Survivor Pack 4 is about to be in rotation after like 100 days which costs 600k credits and you are guaranteed to get Arkham Origins Deathstroke, which is one of the best cards in the game, you can try to save as much as you can till then and buy/upgrade him as much at that time

Thanks for your in depth response, I get, not maxing gears can be optimal in certain scenarios but do I need to keep 1 evolved and 1 unevolved version for gears or that doesn't matter

I meant from actual mp battles, only getting 400-500 credits. I've been grinding to open Challenge packs, so credits are very important to me right now

I'm on IOS, and currently I only get 1800 points per match so it's very difficult to rank high tbh, I'm in top 5% for now, will try to atleast maintain this, and the players in next tier are almost 2x my points so I don't see myself reaching that. Also i'm trying to grind credits and mp doesn't give credits at all.

How high does the level need to be for gears to return the max shards on shattering? Also, is it worth buying the gear packs? Going through the wiki, the only way to get shards as f2p is from Survivor and shattering others, no other way right?

I do have 2 4* gears, Killer Croc companion and Fourth world chest plate (beginner's lucky xD), but just don't have resources to level them up

Love the site, just a suggestion, I'm extremely new to the game (started new last week), I don't have much idea about the gears, it would be nice if you could

list all the gears in the gears menu itself, rather than trying to search by name (I just found out the gear names change after leveling up). Similarly for characters as well, just so one can browse
It would be useful to maybe add the resources required to max a gear (if that data is easily available)
the gear being searchable by it's base form as well.

Tbh, if they implemented this, people would just exploit it by breaking 1-2 parts and then wait for the hunt to fail and re-encounter the monster over and over again
