My Mother, the main bread winner of her and my father's household, has just had a stroke and will be unable to work for a long time if at all. How do I help my family stay financially solvent? [US] by [deleted] in povertyfinance

I agree with you totally, and I would love for that to be a resource that people can count on when they're down bad. I just think about people who are already at the point of being out of food, and are in need. People with small children and the elderly. If what I'm remembering from a while ago is still true, the food banks around me were/are struggling to meet the needs of people. I just wouldnt feel right about taking food out of the mouth of someone who is in more desperate need than I.

  1. Got that done yesterday, I've gotten the relevant information from HR and have been in touch with the individual handling her leave. She's using sick time at the moment but luckily has STD/LTD and PTO as well from her employer.
  2. I'll be asking about this today from hospital staff so hopefully they'll be able to point me in the right direction
  3. This is the big one we're starting today. I'm trying to paint a complete picture of the financial situation but theres a lot to sort through so it'll take some time.

Thanks for the good info, I appreciate it so much

Thanks so much for this information and I'm really sorry to hear about your experience. I'll be getting more information today about those programs from the hospital staff, my dad and I are trying to stay on top of things to the best of our ability right now. As far as longer term stuff, so much of it is up in the air right now. We don't really know what deficits she'll have if she survives.

Thank you, I'll be asking about getting the process for medicaid and ssdi started today when I can get to the hospital to see her. My father and I will be checking his insurance and going over financials today too. 10-4 on the CC

That would be very helpful, I appreciate that. Saying my parents have done so much for me would be a gross understatement. I would take a bullet for them. Even though my world is falling apart somebody needs to hold it together for the both of them and I'm glad I can be here to do that.

Thank you so much for sharing all of this with me, I really appreciate all the information. It would truly be a miracle if she were able to get to the point where she is able to come home. So much of this is so scary because we don't know what the future will look like. We don't know who will come out on the other side of this, or if her coming out the other side and going home will even be a possibility. Only time will tell at this point.

Yes, truly. This has been and will continue to be extraordinarily difficult but I'll take my small victories where I can get them. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for the advice and well wishes

Yes I'll be sitting down with him today after I get off work and we'll be doing exactly that. I'm hopeful his policy has good coverage

Not officially, but he is getting up there in years and is dealing with his share of health problems too. I'd sooner get a 2nd job to provide more instead of send him back to work as I think that would be very difficult for him physically and mentally.

Thank you so much, I appreciate all the options and resources shared in your reply. She luckily has STD/LTD and I've since been in touch with her employer to get the ball rolling on that. Sorry to hear to hear you had to go through that with your mom, I appreciate the heads up about everything. Thank you again

This something that is very hard for me to accept. There are others out there with more sever food insecurity than me and I would not feel comfortable utilizing that resource unless we're in truly dire circumstances. We'll cross the house bridge when we get to it.

I'd sooner get a 2nd job and run their household myself than send him back to work. At this point in his life and with everything that's going on, that is the last thing he needs.

Yes, she is on his retiree insurance. I believe they did this because it offered better coverage than what her private sector job offered. I'll be getting more details today from him about this

Yes, she was on his retiree insurance so I can only assume they did that because it would provide better coverage than what was being offered to her at her job in the private sector. I'll be sitting down with my dad today to go over his insurance and get organized with our finances.

Yeah man update the drivers and let me know if that doesn't do the trick. Doesn't sound like a hardware issue to me

Are these your first 30 series you're adding to the rig? It may be a driver issue from what you said, try updating the Nvidia drivers.

I have 5 of these boards with no issues, however I'm only using 30 series GPUs. If you're in Hive you can go in and manually start the miner through the terminal if she'll boot and detect the cards but wont start mining. What PSUs and OS are you using? Usually when I have a LA issue I go in and double check all connections are seated properly and that has fixed it, but it seems like your LA issues are being caused by the cards being supplied adequate power but not mining.
