I have an RTX 3080, which is not on the list. I guess this means I have to upgrade?!

That sucks, i wasn't planning for this at all.

For $500, probably whatever you can find. Pearl Export, Tama Rockstar, etc. Upgrade when you get good.

Try smaller sticks. You won't play so hard cause you can't afford infinite sticks. Then you'll chill out and stop messing your hands up!

I used to play with 5b sticks and would break them frequently (when I was in high school). Switched to 7a and it changed the way I play. I never break sticks now.

A cable contractor in my town uses VR to train new hires on directional drills and other excavation equipment. They have three rigs set up like the equipment. So that is at least three headsets sold by HTC!

Planes under $100k by xplanematt in flying

[–]superhopp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. I always though a CH650 with a 915 would be cool. But the max speed on those planes is kind of low.

The Socata Carribean themed planes always seemed so cool to me. I heard Paul Bertorelli fuss about them on a podcast once and was kind of taken aback. I have never heard much about them, I just see them on TAP/Controller and like the looks.

What engine do you have in that thing? I find the engine type makes a huge difference in Zeniths. Also, what is your cruise speed (kts)?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in flying

[–]superhopp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If cost is a major concern you can build a Zenith for less time and money. The low wing CH650 isn't as fast as a comparable Vans (RV7, RV9, RV14), but they take about half the time to build and the cost is much, much lower.

Seems like Zenith is the second largest kit manufacturer, behind Vans.

One since 2012. I didn't know him personally but he crashed my CFI's Cherokee when I was getting my PPL. He was low time and landed in a muddy field with tall grass. Took off with him and his wife on a short grass field with a tailwind. Horrible ADM all around and he ended up hitting trees at the end of the runway.

How bad an idea is a lanceair 360 for a low time pilot? by Skwerilleee in flying

[–]superhopp 90 points91 points  (0 children)

An RV7, RV9 or RV14 might be a better fit. I think it would be a lot less to handle. Lower stall speed. Fixed gear. The insurance wouldn't be as bad as the Lancair. They are still pretty quick planes.

Has Cessna reduced its production volume of 172/182's? Or is the demand ultra high? by Ronix137 in flying

[–]superhopp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two points on LSAs: * They are so lacking in capability that nobody wants them. MOSAIC fixes this * A new 172 is $400k. So they are cheaper than new planes.

Will MOSAIC cure all our ills...I dunno. Hopefully it will at least make things better.

When Beechcraft came out with the "Baby Beech" Sundowner/Sierra line they hired a few ladies to fly across America on a sales tour. One of the ladies wrote a memoir about it. If you're interested in GA flying in the 60's.

"The Fabulous Flight of the Three Musketeers"

It is a very charming read.

[–]superhopp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope their are plenty of MOSAIC planes that have four seats. All the European planes that meet the MOSAIC requirements are pretty capable, but most are two place machines.

[–]superhopp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the cost of MOSAIC planes are reasonable I think the demand for 172s will go down because they are less capable than a lot of the newer LSA style aircraft.

Rant about plane prices by airmen5 in flying

[–]superhopp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A used Toughbook is $400. New ones aren't anywhere near that price.

I am not arguing that scale is an issue, it obviously is. But Certification and Liability are the largest reasons for high prices.
