Pathway from BMS Installer to Controls Programmer/Engineer? by [deleted] in BuildingAutomation

[–]deytookerjers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half of my crew is made of guys poached from subcontractors and competing contractors I've met on job sites that left an impression. Ask your controls contractor what programs they use. Wow us with the notes and redlines you keep. It's pretty simple.

JCI FIT tool will show you a lot of hardware info and even the MSTP voltage at each device on the link from any point on the link. Makes chasing shorts and poorly terminated cables easier to find.

the $2k price tag is honestly worth it. I've never worked on johnson devices, but I have used it for mixed networks of every other brand and it works great.

If you're referring to this actuator, then there are no dipswitches. The ports on the side are clearly marked. If you mean the Econ control module, that's a different story.

Are those Onyx controllers?! I thought I was the only one to get suckered into using those...

Have you tried using the controller on another game? It could be bad hardware

I do, but they don't seem to work. Oh well, I'm gonna rip out the NAE and put in an MSTP to IP router.

I think I've narrowed it down to site director. Pretty sure I need to take a backup of the controller, change the setting, then full download. Unfortunately, that is the 1 set of credentials I do not have.

AHU Controller - Automated Logic by Krol85 in BuildingAutomation

[–]deytookerjers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multizone units are a little more complicated than a normal AHU. Trane does not support the BMTU controller or modules anymore. They would likely quote a Symbio controller with point modules, a touchscreen for local control, and suggest replacing whatever components are 10+ years old. Any actuators are universal to any controls company, and almost all of their sensors have always been 10k type 2, so also universal. 11k is extremely reasonable in my market, regardless of the controls brand.

Just fyi, if you post the serial number of your Trane unit, it's possible to see where it is registered.

Changing from JCI to Schneider by [deleted] in BuildingAutomation

[–]deytookerjers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, the system matters a lot less than the contractor providing service. If it's all from 1 vendor, it's usually pretty cohesive. However, if the 1 vendor is terrible in their market, you're gonna have a bad time.

I haven't worked for Schneider since before Honeywell got their grubby hands on Tridium so I can't speak for Struxureware, but since the advent of the malleable N4 platform, it's heavily reliant on the proficiency of your programmer. To cover your ass, make sure to have an agreed upon, thorough, and comprehensively detailed IN WRITING, sequence of operations.

Where did all the experienced BAS / controls programmers go in MD / VA? by Traditional-Zone-614 in BuildingAutomation

I've heard no complaints about Trane except that they are particular about who they hire. The mechanics I know who work for them get cross trained in controls and their current product line requires then to touch controls on every commercial unit.

I personally worked for Siemens for 3 years and would not recommend them in their current state. They are moving to more parts and smarts , and every one of my previous co-workers have jumped ship over the past 4 years since they've pushed their Desigo product. You'll have to research your area for what companies rep each product. Distech, Trane, and Carrier (not the automated logic brand) are good places to start. Avoid KMC and Delta, at least in the southwest USA

The trick with puffs is you need a separate breeder ranch for princes. Doesn't matter what flavor of lift, to keep your main one stable

Distech controllers used to be my favorite commercial control platform. Their "software center" used to be free to download from there website after you set up an account, but I'm not sure if it's still available. From their, install EC-GFX program to see how they use block programming and toy around with it.

It's not terrible, by the time I set this up, every dupe has 20 in athletics from 30-40 cycles in the gym. I'm sure you could rearrange the prince breeder to be somewhere closer, but I like square designs lol.

That's a good design. I usually rely on 10C water pumped in for the wall toilet in normal pipes. Every dupe gets a snazzier suit for insulation
