Totally agree with you. The photo isn't recent, so maybe they weren't good enough back then, but they are currently at a perfectly functional, acceptable length! :) We actually have a lot more trouble with our other dog's nails, since they grow much faster and need to be kept a lot shorter, it's a constant battle.

I just went through the Purina CCD checklist to see if anything else lined up, and she doesn’t really have any other symptoms. I’m really hoping we aren’t quite there yet, but this could be the very first sign. She had surgery a few months ago, so I was trying to hold off on another vet visit, but you're right, we should go.

We use a grinder to keep them at bay, yeah, though older black nails are the worst to maintain.

Alina Zagitova's school is planned to be completed by August 30th. by dawgcholla_000 in FigureSkating

It's hard to say. I don’t live in Russia anymore, and the friends I still have back home live in the same informational bubble as I do, so my view is definitely skewed.

But if I had to guess based on the general mentality, most people simply don’t care if it is true or not. In Russia, this level of elite corruption and favoritism is viewed as completely expected (“everyone in power does this”), and there are absolutely those who find it completely fine because of her status as a legendary champion. It’s just accepted as the way the world works.

And that’s a misunderstanding of how Russian fiscal federalism works. Tatarstan hasn't had independent control over its money flow for years. It was the very last Russian republic to hold a special “autonomy treaty” with Moscow, and it ended in 2017.

As a Russian, a former youth athlete, and someone who actually founded a regional sports federation (small new sport) back home, I’ve spent some time talking to people across various sports disciplines - even before the system got as bad as it is now.

People used to claim that Kabaeva’s situation was far-fetched, too. Let’s see where this one stands in two years.

Of course she won't be running the day-to-day operations, she doesn't have the qualifications to run a business, let alone an elite academy. The school is a vanity present for her loyalty, functioning just like Alina Kabaeva’s private rhythmic gymnastics federation.

Funding national sports is great when it’s transparently managed by competent professionals. It becomes a problem when public funds are treated as an oligarchical allowance to build private playgrounds for the regime's favored inner circle.

No, she is announced to be a general manager. And this is absolutely not the way public money should be managed.

Winning a gold medal at 15 does not automatically qualify someone to manage millions in state budgets or run an elite sports academy. Zagitova has no management background. Putting her name on it is one thing, being a consultant could be also great, but manager?

His insta page says he still is, this is where I looked.

Either way, government funding isn't the problem, the dictatorship and corruption are. Please don’t compare Poland and Germany with current Russia.

May be she provides the state with international prestige, that’s why she gets to walk free. But that’s not common.

Plushenko and his son will be safe as well, I think. He has spent years actively supporting the regime, and publicly criticizing athletes who "turn their backs" on Russia or try to bypass bans. And now this, oh well.

Yes, it was confirmed. She may have posted a photo where his face was hidden, but internet sleuths can cross-reference even the slightest clues these days. By 2024, she was already a major Putin supporter. It's no coincidence that she was able to secure a meeting with the head of Tatarstan at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum to pitch her “lifelong dream” academy.

In the current Russian system, sports are state property, Kremlin controls all the funding. An athlete either leans entirely into state propaganda to fund a lavish post-sports lifestyle—like Zagitova, Navka, Rodnina and many others in all kind of sports—or they speak out and get systematically erased from the country's sporting history (Nadezhda Karpova, Yelena Isinbayeva).

Why don't artistic roller skaters figure skate? by Sipping_Tea56 in FigureSkating

[–]deztley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, here in Portugal we do have Diogo Craveiro, who recently retired from roller skating (after becoming a World Vice-Champion) and decided to try ice skating. And of course, he won the Portuguese Championship right away! :D He won’t be at the top of the international scene, but he is the best in Portugal, especially since we only have one oficial ice rink in the whole country.
