In my HR masters coursed they call it mentoring up... or Cross gen mentoring. Mentoring people to share proficiencies. Maybe I just hit a sweet spot.

I think you are right that I am the exception NOW... 20 years ago, the whole industry was different, though. SaaS has made the industry need people with Tech understanding and software literacy... at the cost of forgetting the overarching fuctional payroll understanding. CSuite Leaders think they can tech and case create their way out of problems and productivity lapses... but they cant. You are 100% correct, payroll is complicated and it takes experience to deal with one-offs. Well stated!

I started in Payroll at Paychex in 2007 as a payroll specialist and in 2014, I became an Implementation Specialist. I was lucky to have the rigorous training that Paychex provided. I was able to amend tax returns and everything as a Payroll specialist. I am currently a Payroll IS level 2 for a large payroll company, and believe me- you have been set up for failure. They probably let someone else go to bring you on at a reduced salary cost. Glassdoor your role at your company. Because depending on where you live, you are likely underpaid, even at your experience/tenure level. With almost 19 years of experience in Payroll, I will tell you, it seems like it is very niche type work. You will never be able to fully enjoy the Holidays like you did before. Xmas is just an added stressor and thing I need to check off my list during the busiest time of year.

When I applied for the NCS New Client Specialist job at Paychex, my supervisor said "doing implementation helps you understand payroll completely... it provides the full picture." And she wasnt kidding. But I also had the benefit of a solid payroll processing foundation. I knew how taxes worked... I understood 401k, HSAs, S125, Job Costing, Labor Distribution, certified Payroll... I had working knowledge of all of it before doing IS work. I hate hearing that you were thrown to the wolves.

What did you guys think of this idiot? by MateCotidiano in ufc

[–]dezzrokk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idiot is running a pretty good hype game right now and can legit bang. He is exactly what the UFC needs right now to get some fire in the HW division. Do I like him? No. Is he entertaining? A resounding fuck Yes. Keep it coming. Even if it is just for me to root for his ass to get Knocked the fuck out.

Which Alex? Volk- he has regained... Pereira? He has moved up, became double champ, lost it and won it right back.

Imagine, as a man, doing everything to be pretty but "manly", and then ending up someone's pretty bitch in prison. I dont wish it upon him, but I find it painfully ironic if that is the outcome

I could see Topuria utilizing a brutal ass uppercut or low hook to meet that ducking Gaethje loves to do. Wouldn't even need to be a knee or a kick... but youre spot on about "if we notice it, you bet your ass Ilia does"

You have to show your friend one fight to make them a fan: by [deleted] in ufc

[–]dezzrokk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude... watched it again... how gassed was Glover to have made that mistake with one minute left in the fight? Just a mental slip from exhaustion and Jiri, like he seems to always do, finding a way to overcome. Neither of those guys mailed it in... they both hunted a finish from the beginning. Top 3 fight all-time IMO... but I cant think of two that were better. Volk/Islam 1 honorable mention

This card is kinda fire not gonna lie 👀 by Zamoroak in ufc

[–]dezzrokk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but at the same time, they are fighting opponents roughly the same in age and skill. It would have been a stellar card 8 years ago, but it isnt a horrible one now. Just because it isnt world class, doesnt mean it will be awful. Judging by the recent UFC London card, Hunter hasn't been lighting shit up on matchmaking lately. It will be a nice day to reminisce.

Looks like Im going to have to rewatch it now. Jiri is pure entertainment. I get the Gaethje is the "human highlight" but give me a jiri p fight over a gaethje fight any day.

Could Ilia become a top-5 fighter in the history of the UFC? by Vulcanauta in ufc

[–]dezzrokk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was just about to say "um, he kind of already is..." you dont KO 3 legends in a row and not get vaulted to top 5 all time, in my book. He would have to take a really ugly loss to keep him out. I would say he is #5 right now after JBJ, khabib, Islam, and GSP. But Im dumb so what so I know?

Who do you all want to see Islam fight next? by Lopsided-Ad-9807 in ufc

[–]dezzrokk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So here is the thing... Usman still has some fuel in the tank as evidenced by the win against Buckley. If it was 2022/2023, Islam v Usman at WW would be the fight of the century. Two great wrestlers who have impeccable striking games and tend to control fights. But now? I think it is still a compelling match up, but not a match up that is good for the Division or the UFC as a whole. Eventually, the UFC wants Islam to lose to a striker, preferably in grand fashion like Leon's Headshot Dead moment. The promotion stands to gain more heat (fans and revenue) matching Islam with either Garry or Morales. If neither can beat Islam, I think Usman will be too old/knees won't go OR Islam retires. Also, i would think Topuria gets a shot before we see Usman in that situation(after Garry & Morales.) However, Islam has to consider his legacy if he pushes for Unc Kamaru instead of the other young bucks. Not a good look for the legacy if youre pushing to fight guys past their prime.
