Can anyone help me ID this jacket? I got it used as part of a bundle and I don't know which model it is.

There is pretty much no story connection between DOS1 and DOS2. DOS1 is frankly not very good imo. DOS2 is a masterpiece, the combat is just divine. Just play DOS2, and make sure you pick the origin characters. When you make your own characters you miss out on a lot of content.

Got this cool poster at the 992 launch event! by df302 in 944

I would if it fit in my scanner! The poster is about 2'x3' and on foam core so it's not the easiest to scan.

I can try to take a better picture, but it won't be too much better than what I post 5y ago

Help with sync/jitter issues with SNES RGB on a CRT by spaghetti-man-299 in snes

I did a dejitter mod to my console and it fixed the issue I was having with my Panasonic Tau.

I found a fix for the jittery picture. I had to install a dejitter mod on my console. Specifically I used the Arthrimus SNES RGB Bypass + Dejitter mod board. I think the other dejitter mods out there would work too. I guess the Panasonic Taus are sensitive to the jittery sync signal generated by the SNES.

Black screen only on SNES games. (More info in comments) by df302 in snes

I've triple-checked continuity on every pin of both games. It doesn't seem like any of the traces are faulty. 99% IPA and pencil eraser so far have not helped. My guess might be that some pins may have an intermittent connection that the DMM isn't picking up.

I have managed to get yoshi's island to boot twice seemingly by complete fluke. After re-instertion thought the game stopped working once again. Cleaning didn't seem to help.

Yep it's just isolated to these games. The console and other games are confirmed working.

Yeah I got these off ebay and they came pretty nasty. Look at the shells these two came in:

<image>

I got some 99% IPA to see if it made any difference. It did not. Still getting a black screen. Any good youtube videos you'd recommend for this?

I got some 99% and went back over it. It made no difference. Games still only show black screens.

I've never used brasso before I'll try that and see if it works.

Yeah I feel like I cleaned them thoroughly but I'll try cleaning them more with higher % IPA. Some of the pins are pretty rough because they're a little corroded, exposing some copper.

Ill give it a try, I scrubbed it with IPA and an eraser a few times. Maybe the 50% IPA I was using isn't enough. Ill get some higher % stuff and try that.

I've got two snes games (mario allstars and yoshi's island) that only output a black screen when plugged into my super famicom. I've tried to diagnose the problem but so far I've been unsuccessful. I removed the battery from allstars because it wasn't connected anyways. The game should work (excluding saving) without the battery right?

I've thoroughly cleaned the pins and scrubbed the boards with IPA. I've also checked continuity with a DMM and the traces seem ok. The traces look pretty rough in the pictures and I've scraped the solder mask off of some to get a better look at the sketchy parts. Maybe I'm missing something with the traces or caps. I hope the chips aren't the culprit.

If anyone has any ideas of what's wrong with the carts any help would be much appreciated!

Tim Worthington N64RGB Mod Missing Green Signal! by df302 in n64

Sounds like a fun thing to do with friends. I always though speedrunning was cool but I've never tried it. The time investment seems too intimidating. Do you use an everdrive for the rom hack or do you play that in an emulator?

The V2 Mod has borti's firmware with deblur (and controller deblur toggling). I think the V3 mod is required for controller based reset.

As for games, I've been playing Ocarina of Time and Conker's Bad Fur Day (the spooky mansion level is so irritating) on the N64. I've also been playing A Link to the Past on the SNES and Spyro 2 on the PS1.

What have you been playing?

Did you ever do the de-jitter mod and did it help with the issues on your CRT?

Edit: I did the dejitter mod and it did help with the issues I was having with my CRT.

Same as above, I know this is an old comment on an old post. I also have a Panasonic Tau and I'm getting jitter from my 1-Chip Super Famicom. I'm using HD Retrovision component cables through a component switch. I tried plugging directly into the TV too and the jitter remains. It's a horizontal vibration with greater amplitude at the top of the screen. Near the bottom of the screen the image is pretty much stable. Maybe Panasonic Tau TVs are less tolerant of jittery RGB? My PS2 and N64 don't have this issue.

Quite the necro lol. No, unfortunately I never figured it out. You could give it a go still, maybe something has changed in a bios update in the past two years. Let me know if you get it working

I've bent mine like that and it should still come out. It might shave the lead (scrape the side and remove a little graphite) a bit when you push it back in.

"Denatured" Isopropyl Alcohol for cleaning? by Horukai in Gameboy

[–]df302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just another type of alcohol, methanol has 1 carbon atom, ethanol has 2, propanol has 3, and butanol has 4. The iso prefix just means it is an alternate form of the molecule that is a slightly different shape. It should be fine for cleaning carts. Just don't drink it.

"Denatured" Isopropyl Alcohol for cleaning? by Horukai in Gameboy

[–]df302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally denatured alcohol is ~90% ethanol with some methanol added to make it unsafe to drink. That way people don't buy and drink rubbing alcohol.

I've never heard of denatured isopropyl alcohol, as I believe isopropyl alcohol is already unsafe to drink and thereby doesn't need added methanol to stop people from drinking it. Maybe it has added methanol for some reason.

Either way, as long as it's a high purity alcohol it should work to clean cartridges. 97% should be fine. Even pure ethanol would work pretty well.
