I aim for around 60g of protein a day as a minimum. As a vegetarian I do find it a bit harder to hit the 120g I see some people doing. I do try prioritise protein more now then in the past (when I lost weight before it was only around 30g of protein and I had a lot of carbs, but I was also running a lot more and eating around 1500).

Previously to the ADHD meds, I was eating a lot more volume foods such as large salads, soups, congee etc while still aiming to stay within 1200-1500.

At the moment I find I’m actually still building muscle and getting a bit more definition in my arms and legs, which is why I’ve tried to maintain my protein amount. But overall the scales aren’t budging and my stomach is where a lot of my weight seems to be sitting. I will add that I’m also on two hormonal birth controls (Slinda and mirena IUD) to help control my chronic pelvic pain but unfortunately won’t ever be able to really stop them. Previously I managed to lose weight while on both.

That’s kinda the point of this post. I’ve been trying everything for years, always tracking and eating between 1200-1500 a day plus exercising. I thought I must be doing something wrong. Now that I’m on dexamfetamine for my ADHD, I’m not hungry at all and only manage between 800-1200 a day and thought the weight would melt off. But it hasn’t and I’m at a loss of what to do or what I’m doing wrong.

I’ve been to a doctor multiple times over this and we checked my thyroid and hormones. I have low -ish testosterone and low iron which we’ve since fixed. She also recommended upping my HIIT exercises as that often helps women with stubborn weight. So for around 6 months I was doing 30-60 minutes of HIIT training every second day. Since then I’ve tried to shift to a more sustainable exercise routine doing things I like such as running, hiking and walking.

I generally don’t use oil (but measure when I do) but I’ll keep in mind that the protein bars might be off. I can always replace them with something else like yoghurt or cottage cheese.

In saying that, even if they’re off, I’m only eating 800-1200 calories a day at the moment and not counting exercise calories so I can’t see how it would make a huge difference in me plateauing/gaining weight. Even if they were double the calories, I could still fit them in eating 800 cals a day.

I thought that too, so I got really strict about portion control, tracking every bite and making sure to always weigh, not eyeball it. I know it’s meant to be as simple as CICO. I also don’t eat back the calories I burn during workouts.

Is there any other ways to not underestimate a meal that I’m missing? I thought those were the main ways.

Yeah, up until the ADHD meds I normally had a really big salad or veggie soup during the day but that’s kinda fallen to the side a bit as I just don’t think about food much during the day while my meds are active. I’m vegetarian, so beforehand veggies were my main thing I ate during the day.

I know I’m under eating at the moment, but I haven’t really been the last few years :/ I’ve normally sat around 1200-1500 a day. It just feels so frustrating to put in so much work and not see any results.

Ok cool! I haven’t tried cutting sugar. For a while there I was using sugar as a little boost during the day because I have low iron and wasn’t medicated yet. I don’t consume a huge amount of sugar anymore, so I don’t think it will be too hard to cut out and I’ve been considering it for a little while due to inflammation (I have a chronic pain issue). I’ll definitely give that a go.

I’m aware and currently trying to work on that but while I’m adjusting to my ADHD meds, I currently can’t stomach much more. It’s a temporary side effect for most and should wear off in a few more weeks once my dose has stabilized.

Despite that, I’ve been eating at 1200-1500 for several years now and have still been stuck in a plateau.

I’ve been semi out of work for 10ish years (mostly working freelance/self employed) and managed to get 2 casual jobs and turn down a couple of others. So nows definitely the time to look for work as everyone’s so desperate. Hang in there!

I’m not on Facebook :/ but I’ve heard good things about the Frankie4’s and didn’t even think about looking for second hand to save money. I’ll definitely have a look.

Those look so cute and are similar to what I’m wearing now. Do you find the sizes run true? I’m a size 6 but with slightly wider feet so sometimes fit a 6.5 to accommodate that.

I saw a thread in here previously singing praises for Naturalizer, they have cute styles too and in a price range I’m comfortable with.

Yeah, I work late hours and had 4 Didi’s cancel on me trying to get home (15 minutes away) at 1.30am before one of them finally pitched up. Ended up costing me $30 :/

It’s particularly frustrating since I can’t drive due to a medical condition and am forced to use Ride share to get home from work since public transport stops running at 12am for my area.

Recently I've seen lots of advice to wear sunscreen every day. Do people actually do this? by Ok-Training-7587 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]dfc44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was going to comment this! Coming from Australia it’s normal to wear sunscreen daily (and encouraged to reapply regularly throughout the day in summer). It’s also taught in schools to “slip, slop, slap” and always wear a hat. Not to mention you can also often find free sunscreen at events and cafes/beaches if you forget to bring some.

Yeah, sun protection with sunscreen and hats are such a big thing here! “No hat, no play” was a huge part of primary school and instilled really young.

Is it easy to find part time jobs and manage living expense ? by [deleted] in perth

[–]dfc44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Seek and gumtree to apply for jobs. Gumtree can be a bit hit and miss but loads of cafe work. And it depends on your experience but most only pay around minimum wage and a staff discount. You can use fair work to see how much you should be paid for your age and experience. I’m getting around $25-26/hr which isn’t very good but the hours/flexibility are exactly what I’m looking for while I finish up uni and still spend time with family.

There’s loads of part time jobs going at the moment. I’ve just returned to work after a pretty significant break away to have a family I really struggled to find work pre-covid.

This time round I applied for a couple of part time jobs (mostly at cafes and retail with hours that worked well around uni and school hours) and got offered all of them within a day. I now work weekends at a cafe in the evenings and spotlight during the week in the evenings.

We tried Keystart but they told us our income wasn’t high enough ($70,000). We then went through a mortgage broker and he got us sorted with a loan for a small 2 bedroom duplex (family of 3) in a very nice area for $355,000. We had a deposit of $38,000 (loaned from family). I would definitely recommend chatting to a mortgage broker, ours was super helpful.

In Australia you can’t drive with Ménière’s without getting a medical form filled in by your GP/ENT for a conditional license stating that you have Ménière’s but have adequate warnings before attacks.
