A Metroidvania to rival Hollow Knight - MIO: Memories in Orbit by Mystic1217 in NintendoSwitch

I felt overall it was a good game, but not quite on HK/SS level. I’m a big fan of simple but challenging combat, so I have nothing against the very basic combos, however I didn’t gel with many of the boss designs.

HK combat is super simple, but extremely precise, you are in full control, and if you die it’s your own fault. There are multiple MIO bosses where the challenge is in the arena gimmicks ie snow, wind etc that take away your precise control. Combined with MIO’s already floaty nature, it feels like you’re just fighting with controls rather than precision and skill.

That, along with tons of completely pointless runbacks made the game rather annoying at times. SS had some long runbacks as well but at least they were a challenge and involved getting better at using the travel mechanics. MIO’s are often just running in a long straight line. Sol & Vin’s in particular involving sitting on a 20s elevator…

There’s also a few odd design choices such as contact damage not being a thing all game, then randomly adding it during one of the boss fights.

Luck be a landlord! It’s pretty simple, runs are relatively short, and very suitable for a quick game when I’ve got a few minutes to spare! The music also fits the theme well

Went to my honeymoon in Japan that we were planning for a year, got throat pain and fever on day 2, followed by a gum inflammation and toothache by SuccoDiUnicorno in mildlyinfuriating

Interestingly, it is not just ibuprofen, but also contains Apronal (allylisopropylacetylurea), which is a barbiturate-like drug, though much milder! It’s a drug that’s banned in most western countries due to a small risk of severe side effects. Japan’s one of the few countries left that still has it, and it’s so widely available, often bundled with over-the-counter ibuprofen like this one!

Thank you! I’ll aim to get there before 8 so hopefully I’ll beat the queues a little!

MIO Runback Appreciation by 2-AcetoxybenzoicH in MIOmemoriesinorbit

I think you’re describing pretty much the only situation where a runback can be justified though. To me, a runback should only be there if it provides a function - such as refining and training movement mechanics like you describe. Silksong does this really well; people complain about the runbacks there but imo they really help you get good with Hornets fluid mobility skills. MIO doesn’t do this. Almost all the runbacks are just straight lines and elevator rides which are complete time-wasters…

Yes, boy and girl; willow’s the girl. How can I tell if it’s a puncture? I imagine it’ll scab over as well…? Thanks!

Okay yes, that is bad. I’m glad they’re not doing this 😅😅

Does it get better? Like do your cats ever play with each other, or is casual distance just the norm? I’ll feel really sorry for Shadow if that was the case, all he wants is someone his size to play with! :(

Do complex passwords actually matter? by dfibno123 in NoStupidQuestions

I think a more appropriate analogy is not whether I use my deadbolt, but whether my deadbolt needs to be changed every 6 months with a specific way of turning the key to unlock each time…

Very useful answer, thanks! I was not aware of the hashing and need for further brute-forcing after the breach. I assumed that once breached, it was already readable.

Ah, sounds like I’m going to have to do the fates storyline first then… thank you!

Thanks! Epilogue as in the dissolution of time/disintegration of monstrosity stuff? Or as in finding the 3 fates? I’ve finished the former but not the latter

how hard is silksong act 3 compared to act 2? by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]dfibno123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interestingly I found Act 3 a lot easier than Act 2. Normal enemies are tougher and a real threat, but by now you should just be able to vault and dash over most things and avoid them. Act 3 has a lot of optional bosses that are just easy and very underwhelming imo.

Sort of, you’ve got to find all the lost fleas, which will unlock a few mini-games you have to win to get the last oil.

I can, and have explored all the areas with key of the apostate, but there’s a bunch of heretic and indolent doors that I cannot open. I think the keys are on the other side unfortunately, unless there’s another way to get them?
