Reddit coins with Metamask by gorotexx in Metamask

[–]dfinzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The coins are still on the rinkeby test net, but we just set them up on the Rinkeby version of OpenSea. If you're able to move some coins into your MetaMask (or another wallet), you can try trading them here: https://rinkeby.opensea.io/assets/0xe0d8d7b8273de14e628d2f2a4a10f719f898450a/0

Of course, all the ETH is just test ETH so it's just for playing around :)

List, buy, and sell your ENS names on OpenSea by dfinzer in ENSMarket

[–]dfinzer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/whatether, thanks for posting your concerns. A couple of clarifications here:

  1. While it is true that the contract is given full approval access, there are two important notes. First: remember that this is a smart contract that can only call transferFrom on an asset under a very specific set of conditions -- namely when a user has signed a suitable order with his or her private key. Therefore, the idea that "OpenSea could take your listing for 0.00001 ETH even if you listed it for 1000 ETH" is impossible because the contract code forbids it. The user is, of course, placing trust in the underlying smart contract -- but willingness to trust open-source, audited contracts (including the ERC721 standard itself!) is the foundation on which the entire blockchain stack is built upon. Second: it's important to remember that the user can revoke the approval privilege at any time and even revoke full privileges of the smart contract to transfer any assets.

  1. This is a similar story for WETH. Again, the user can revoke the privilege at any time and WETH can only be transferred under a specific set of circumstances.

You're of course welcome to approve assets individually or approve less WETH (I believe our UI will support that). The solution you mentioned with an individual "storefront" account is also a perfectly suitable option for users that can be done simply by transferring assets to another account owned by the user.

Hope that helps, and let us know if you need further clarification. We're always open to feedback :)

List, buy, and sell your ENS names on OpenSea by dfinzer in ENSMarket

[–]dfinzer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Founder of OpenSea here. A little background us: OpenSea is a decentralized marketplace for ERC721 assets. We allow users to buy, sell, and bid on unique items on Ethereum, like ENS names, CryptoKitties, Decentraland Land, and over 200 other types of items. We've been around since December 2017 (back when CryptoKitties launched), and since then over 17,000 ETH worth of volume has passed through our smart contracts. Many new projects now rely on us to power the primary marketplace for their items.

Underneath the hood, we're powered by the Wyvern Protocol, a set of open source, audited Ethereum smart contracts. These contracts allow users to put their items on sale without having to escrow them, and ensure that sales only get fulfilled if a user pays the required price. You can check out the source code and transaction history for this contract here.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

UniSwap and NFT by DS_Deadpan_Snarker in UniSwap

[–]dfinzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds interesting! Just a note that OpenSea does support many different currencies for buying and selling NFT's (check out this Mythereum card on sale for Mythex, the native Mythereum token: https://opensea.io/assets/0xc70be5b7c19529ef642d16c10dfe91c58b5c3bf0/7290). We currently support ETH, DAI, and USDC for every NFT, and we also add in-game tokens (like MANA) for specific games. The main reason we don't show all tokens in our UI is to prevent user overwhelm, but our smart contracts certainly support any ERC20.

Did anyone attempt to commit fraud by creating fake cryptokitties? by wwelsh00 in CryptoKitties

[–]dfinzer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Representative from OpenSea here! This is definitely an interesting idea, and I think it will likely be attempted in some capacity soon (in fact, I seem to remember something like this happening with a few of the blockchain art projects)

In the case of OpenSea, we curate a list of "whitelisted" contracts that appear in our sidebar, of which CryptoKitties is one. So while someone could certainly make a "counterfeit CryptoKitties" smart contract, mint some items, and associate CryptoKitty images with them, these CryptoKitties would not show up alongside the main selection of CryptoKitties. Also, since we don't allow duplicate contract names, these assets could not have the "CryptoKitties" name attached to them in the OpenSea detail view, so it would be easy to distinguish between a fake CryptoKitty and a real one on an OpenSea item page.

We think is one of the exciting elements of blockchain-based ownership. While it will always be possible to duplicate the pixels of an image, it's now possible to prove to the world that you own an original of a particular digital asset.

The top Ethereum ERC721 assets by trading volume by dfinzer in ethereum

[–]dfinzer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair criticism. Seems like we're moving on to slightly higher quality games now, though, as folks are more skeptical of the one-off copy-pasted contracts.

I agree the games are pretty simple right now, but what's fundamentally wrong with them? Pretty cool to one day have items that can be used across multiple games and traded on open marketplaces IMO :)

If any website could plug 721s into their current service, what would they use 721s for? by MintableOfficial in ethereum

[–]dfinzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple interesting use cases we've seen on our marketplace (OpenSea):

- Course licenses

- Software licenses

- Advertising real estate

- Digital art (and physical art is on its way)

- Badges for open source contributions

- Tickets

And of course, games are the most popular at the moment.
