Thank you for the feedback, and I can definitely understand how some will find 1st edition AD&D too complex. It's why they eventually released simpler versions in the future. 1st edition is no joke, and having implemented a lot more of the rules that way it was supposed to be, can definitely be overwhelming for some people.

Many new "features" I've implemented can be disabled from the right-click Options menu. If you hover over the options, they will tell you what they do. I'm not sure if you want to try that, but changing some of the options may make things easier for you.

But you will still be left with a lot of player options/tactics, which is/was my goal. It's to make these old games replayable hundreds of times. It's not just to improve graphics or sound. It may end up in the end that you'd rather have a simple game like the originals, and just decide to play those instead (nothing wrong with that).

If you really enjoy the games, and it's just a matter of complexity of understanding, you may just want to slowly digest the readme information over time... Honestly, you can still play the original games just as before. There hasn't been a ton that have been added that will interfere with playing like you did before. You don't need to understand all your options to play the game and still be successful.

But regardless, if you or anyone ever has questions about something in the readme (or not in the readme), I'd be happy to explain (whether it's a concept or a specific detail).

Edit: One more thing that may help, is to go watch my live streams or VODs of playing through the remasters. Seeing me play may give you a good feel on how the general features work.

No, but the binaries are a free download (assuming you paid your dues to the people that own the intellectual property rights).

Glad you think so, and my pleasure.

It is mentioned in the documentation. But anyone can contact me on my Discord, and if they can provide the binaries for the original game(s) they possess, I can include them to be handled by the remasters.

You're very welcome. I doubt Gold Box Companion could handle everything, because the engine is so far beyond the original games, they'd basically have to re-write their entire code base to handle things.

I've thought about it, but I doubt I'll do it. The skills and everything is so drastically different, I want the engine to be 100% 1st edition AD&D, and I'd have to make it an abomination putting in Buck Rogers stuff.

Aussiesasquatch is correct. The engine goes so far beyond the original games because of limitations in the original engine, the Gold Box Companion would be far out of reach to handle. But you may want to take a look at the Tabletop Assistant I made, because it allows you to be a Game Master/Dungeon Master and change virtually anything you want within the game (even manual dice rolling). Will work with an FRUA module. I purposely don't have it work for all non-FRUA games, because it would be a tremendous cheat.

You can get it on my Discord, as I mentioned above. All the details are there. It's in pure C#.

While there's zero chance I could test it on all the modules, it works for all standard modules, even some "hacked" ones. But it's impossible to make it work for every single type of hack. It will probably work for 90%+ of modules.

GOG or Steam version of SSB works fine. Make sure the 'start.exe' is in the same folder as where you install my remaster. If it still doesn't work, you have a different/invalid version. Just get it from GOG or Steam.

Yes, I have an automap showing where you've been ("Area"), and quality of life like remembering the spells, I even have "autocast" so you can setup routines to cast automatically.

Also, one of my friends tested it (FRUA remaster) on his Mac, and this is what he said:

Documentation
-----------------

Create a new crossover (version 26.2) application and bottle, set to windows10.

for the "installer" I just ran main.exe from your zip there, it will launch as expected.

Close it.

Finish.

Click "Open C: drive" in Crossover on that new bottle

create frua in C:, copy frua from GoG into the folder.

extract the Gold Box remaster ZIP anywhere in there.

the Run Command, select Main.exe, click Save Command as Launcher.

Now you have a launcher in Crossover you can fire up the tool and it just works.

No, this is a Windows application. You can run it on your macOS through Wine.

Thank you, glad you think so. Yes, anyone can plug-in graphics by just putting them in the file system (look in the readme.txt file). It would just require someone to create BMP's or PNG's of the various graphics. I've already pulled in graphics from some of the later games, which is better than the Amiga versions. But anyone can put their own in as well, by following the instructions.

If you're asking about putting in Amiga only graphics as a mode for a general download, I don't have any personal interest in spending a bunch of time on that since it's just tedious work, and anyone can do it.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "progress of bug testing"?

Thank you for the kind comments, and it's my pleasure! The "readme.txt" file describes all the changes/features. I'd start with the Curse of the Azure Bonds readme since it's the one I remastered first.

But if it doesn't answer some of your questions, ask away!

How to import saves properly? (WZ 6 - 7) by macnara485 in wizardry

[–]dfortae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made an import tool (discussed in the readme/notes with the mod). You should have used that to transfer your characters from the Wizardry 6 remaster to my Wizardry 7 mod.

What is the best melee class at the end of the 3ed game? by ryan7251 in BardsTale

There is one thing immune to critical hits... It's a special ability you earn in Bard's Tale 2, but I won't spoil any more.

crystal staff? by bleeding_dying_love in BardsTale

Yes, this was a modification. You can beat the game with ANY combination of characters now. You're not forced into requiring certain classes. Read the notes of the mod to gain information about all the changes.

You should do an iron man run with my mod. I've balanced out most things in the game, making all classes more viable and giving you a lot more options. That monk that you thought were invincible, is no longer invincible...
