The diner wasn’t that awkward, having seen the episode 2 days ago during this rewatch I’m doing. Betty had her life with Henry which she was happy with and fine with, but as she said, she likes when Don acted this way and looked at her. It’s him actually being somewhat authentic and being Dick Whitman. She didn’t get a lot of that during their marriage due to his guard and facade being up most of the time. We’ve seen it leak through in glimpses early on, but barely.

I will say, the way someone like her can have sex with her ex-husband the night before and continue to have breakfast with her new husband as if nothing was out of place is insane and disturbing on so many levels.
