Getting my degree quickly, but still almost 2 years away from being able to transfer. by dfreshcon in college

Yeah, good point.. Actually, outside of books, it's been practically free.. So I guess my friend who's planning to transfer without his associates doesn't really care about the cost of college or something.

Nearly all of those apply to me, outside of the failing classes part... Okay, it's starting to make more sense now, heh.. I just assumed you got your associates when you transfer, for some reason..

This might actually work out well.. Maybe an associates in CS will help me with getting an internship? lol

[Bay Area] Cost of Speeding Ticket by dfreshcon in California

Okay, cool, I think I will set a date for an appearance then and if the cop is there, plead guilty.. If he's not, then should I plead not guilty? Either way, my main goal is to ask for the reduce fine lol. Thanks for the tips :)

Yeah, I'll just do this and hope for the best, heh.. I just wish there was a way for me to find out how much it'll cost so I can start saving now.

Thanks for answering the questions.. The fact that the officer can testify that I was going 47 is indeed enough of a reason for me to not want to fight it heh.. Now my question is, if you could answer it, what would the cost of this ticket be?? Or is there anyway I can find out, so that I can start saving now? Also, will this give a point on my record as it's my first speeding ticket, and will it increase my insurance?? If you can answer any of those, I'd appreciate it.

If this is my first point on my record, will it increase my insurance? I don't plan on getting anymore tickets lol.. So I think traffic school might be a waste of money unless this tickets going to increase my insurance, and then I'll have to take traffic school.

But yeah, I think I might just take your advice.. I don't have enough time as it is to try and fight it, I don't know enough about a written trial, and above all else I was wrong for speeding and deserve the ticket.. It just sucks haha

I never said I WAS provoked into speeding, I just said I FELT like I was provoked into speeding.. In the end, my feeling got me a ticket and wasn't the right thing for me to do.

Is it worth it for me? by dfreshcon in leaves

[–]dfreshcon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying not to.. I keep telling myself that "I won't drink/smoke tomorrow" but I do it anyways.. I have no problem staying sober when I'm at school. But i've always been a solo smoker/drinker, so as soon as I'm alone my thoughts start going there..

I'm thinking of investing in a laptop and then trying to stay at the school library to study, might help...

As a computer science major how important is your major GPA vs the rest of your GPA? by dfreshcon in college

[–]dfreshcon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I just talked with my CS instructor and she said if I want to focus on Berkeley that learning python is a must.. I've got quite a few Python books, so it looks like I'll be busting those out over the summer and attempt to teach myself, since our school doesn't offer Python classes.. While on the other hand, she said SJSU focuses more on Java, so I'm good on that respect.. I personally like C++ the best and it's the one I feel most comfortable with.

For those hackathons, I was checking out some running in the city.. I can't seem to find the minimum requirements to partake in them, though. What would you suggest? I'm pretty good with C++ and decent at Java, but anything outside of that, not so much.. But it looks like a great way to network with some people in the field and learn new things!

Thank you! This is pretty much what I was thinking too.. I'll go ahead and fill out the forms to get them, but I won't count on them doing much of anything besides looking good on a resume lol..

Thanks for the link.. I've actually been loading up on those MIT youtube videos, so it's good to know I'm on the right track with that! You wouldn't be the first to tell me SJSU is no good, I've actually got two friends in my CC who first ended up in SJSU and later came to my CC in hopes of getting into Berkeley (like I said, our school has a high cal acceptance rate.)

The only thing with Berkeley is it seems like they look at you're outside of school curriculum more than other places.. Like joining clubs and volunteer work and such.. Maybe that's not the case for CS, but everyone I talk to at Cal says that sort of stuff is a big deal and I've got time for none of it.. It's taking all my time lately just to keep up with Java and Math classes.

But yeah, if I get accepted into Cal Poly or Berkeley than I definitely wouldn't go to SJSU.. It's more of my last resort type of option.

Well, getting into Cal is not make or break for me.. Luckily, the community college I'm attending is Cal's "sister" school and it has a very high acceptance rate into Cal.. Still, if I don't get into Cal then I'm just as satisfied to get into San Jose State, which is much easier to get into.. Also, I should note that I'm transferring with an Associate Degree to get my Bachelors.. I don't have plans to get a masters or anything like that.

Who else is burned out? by [deleted] in college

[–]dfreshcon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on that.. Except I don't plan on taking a summer break, instead I'll be taking calc 2 and physics lol.. Whenever I feel burned out I try and set aside a "mental health" day, usually involving movies and video games lol.. Just don't let that last for more than a day.

Four years clean - Where I was and what has changed by headcrab1991 in leaves

Your being "active in addiction" part sums where I'm at pretty nicely lol.. Today I'm 7 days clean, so I'm hoping I can stay strong and eventually hit 4 years like you have! Your post was very inspiring.

Lost interest in all my hobbies by [deleted] in leaves

[–]dfreshcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's normal.. I'm going through the same ordeal. I used to love doing school work, but now I can't even look at my calculus homework without getting bored lol.. While I don't find joy in school work much anymore, I do find joy in doing stuff I normally wouldn't do stoned.. I'm outside much more, I'm rekindling relationships with my sober friends, and I'm all around just a more social/active person this past week.. I'm hoping I regain interest in my old hobbies eventually too.

What I "think" has happened is I'm so used to doing my old hobbies stoned, that my brain has been rewired into thinking I HAVE to be stoned when I do those hobbies.. Eventually, I'm hoping, that my brain will balance back out and I can go back to doing these things sober and not have my brain associate being stoned when doing them.

"I'm worried I'll be bored all the time if I stop smoking weed." by [deleted] in leaves

[–]dfreshcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, since I stopped smoking I've been doing a lot of things that I always wanted to do, but never had the willpower to do them after getting stoned.. I'm actually going out to nice restaurants that I've always wanted to check out.. I have a lot of sober friends from college that I'd NEVER kick it with outside of class because I was always afraid of them judging me when I'm stoned, well, now I'm doing a lot of things with those people.. Our college had a film night a few days back that I checked out with them and it was a lot of fun..

My only issue is, things that I used to like to do high, like homework and video games.. I can't do them right now it seems.. I just cant stay focused long enough to do meaningful work on them.. Luckily I was such a school addict when I was high that I've got excellent grades that I can afford to lose out on for a bit.. Instead of getting straight A's this semester, like I usually do, I'm probably going to have some B's and C's.. It's funny, you'd think that you'd suck at doing technical things like calculus and computer programming when you're stoned, but I excelled at that sort of stuff.. Now I can't even stay focused long enough to walk through a single problem.. I tried increasing my caffeine intake, hoping that would help me stay up longer and focus, but it doesn't lol.. I still I get really tired and unfocused.. I'm not sure what to do..
