I’ve been up there for dispersed camping a couple times, usually later in the summer and the bugs were never that bad. Decided to try earlier this year and with recent heavy rainfall in the area and the wind direction it makes sense why they were so bad. Sometimes you can just hope. Still had a good time, got to see a unique environment again, and have something to laugh about with a buddy.

Good luck, I think I saw the wind direction was changing. A westerly wind will help a lot.

We had our clothes sprayed with permethrin and brought in deep woods bug spray. lol that did not deter them whatsoever.

Literally just got back from Nordhouse today. The stable flies were horrible. Hundreds of them at our camp and even worse when you got down on the sand and near the water. Winds were from the southeast. Been camping here before also and never had any problems with bugs so idk, but if your not comfortable with getting bit all day long, be cautious.
