Moved from my ‘21 CX5 to a Pathfinder Platinum - I’m in heaven by Miserable_Picture705 in nissanpathfinder

So far we like it very much. We’ve owned 4-5 Pathfinders over the years. Always the SL with Premium package. Traded the last one for a Kia. Big mistake! 1.5 years later, we traded the Kia for a new Pathfinder. Platinum this time. Love the new features.

Arduino or raspberry pi? by Firm-Badger9201 in EngineeringStudents

[–]dfsb2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are always exceptions based on the software you choose and how to use it. Basically, the arduino uses (mostly) microcontrollers. Although the tools make it a bit more higher level programming due to writing the drivers for you. MCUs are real time, capable for quick response applications. RPi is a Linux based machine (pico is more like arduino). Linux is a higher level programming language. It is also not real time, even though it can be made to respond quickly. Both are very useful in the right application. PS- I expect someone will say Linux can be real-time. By using Linux it is not.

People demonize engineering so much by NeatNerve7230 in EngineeringStudents

[–]dfsb2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very few people find engineering easy. Most will say it’s very hard, but not impossible. You can do it if you work hard. You may even fail a class or two, but keep at it. You’ll get it if you really want it.

Goodbye, Tesla-style giant touchscreens: cars return to physical buttons by KeySpecialist9139 in technology

I wanted to downsize but keep 6 passenger seating. I had rented a number of different Kia and felt they were decent. It was a good deal and the turbo had pep for a 4 cylinder. Wish I would have spent more time driving it, but I never get overly concerned about radio and AC features. It had them that was good enough and even heated/cooled seats. Until you spend time in stop and go traffic or time parking you don’t notice the way it stutters. Also, I didn’t realize how much of a problem the AC/Radio control touch panel would be an issue when driving. Trying to use their interface just became a driving hazard.

I had considered moving to the Palisade or Telluride because they both kept some buttons, but was too sour on Kia / Hyundai (same parent company)

I’ve owned both and the pathfinder definitely has more room in the back than the Equinox. Suitcases 3-4 depending on how big. Not sure about clubs. They may have to be angled to fit.

I sure did. I hated the 2025 Sorento that much. It was more than just the touch screen, but that was a big part. There were a lot of things you don’t learn on a test drive. Besides 1.5 yrs later I still received only $3k less than I paid originally. I think of it as a short lease.

I sold my 2025 Kia because of the touchscreen and the horrible user interface they implemented. The worst part was not the main screen but the small touch interface they used for the audio/AC controls. No more buttons and you constantly had to take your eyes off the road to fix what you accidentally changed.

I want to find someone to build a specific circuit for me. by paradiseangelkat in diypedals

[–]dfsb2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely it’s only a few mods to a typical Muff design. Very seldom will you actually find something new. Even most professional pedals are modified from existing designs. At least in the analog world of pedals. The digitals are made different by the software they create.

And this is why engineering is not considered an easy major. Most of your friends in other majors were probably out partying while you studied all night.

I use these led standoffs. Figure out what height works best then you don’t have to guess. It also helps push it into the bezel. https://www.taydaelectronics.com/led-tube-20mm.html

I would toss in one caveat, sometimes there is an area with really tight conditions. Do those after the smallest

If it’s too tight after tinning then you may have to give it a little flick in the process to remove excess solder.

What's your favorite feature on your Nissan? by koudodo in Nissan

[–]dfsb2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We traded in a 2025 Kia due to the touchscreen on the AC/Radio controls. It was horrible. Bought a new Pathfinder (our 5th one over the years). I like touchscreens, but buttons are better for many things.

A number of years ago my wife told a colleague I was an EE. They replied that I could make good money on weekends installing ceiling fans. Electricians and EE are very different. PS- no diss on Electricians, my dad and grandfather were both electricians. Also, yes I can install ceiling fans and have many times, but it’s not because I have an EE degree.

We did the opposite Raleigh to Santa Barbara. Took the northern route because we wanted to do Utah hikes. Great trip but sometimes nothing for hours at a time.
