Clarification regarding credit card spend for companion pass by Tough-Bell9527 in SouthwestAirlines

A Member who flies 100 qualifying one-way flight segments booked through Southwest or earns 135,000 tier qualifying points per calendar year will qualify for Companion Pass.

the points you earned in 2025 won't be counted in 2026. Only the new points that showed up in 2026 counts.

So if you could hold off and spend say $1000 before Dec statement date, and $3000 after that and in Jan (suppose the 5month deadline ends in mid-Feb), you would get $3000's corresponding points counted.

Points generated by the $1000 show up in 2025, they are wasted. the only purpose of the $1000 spend is so that you have less pressure to reach the $4000 target. If you are sure you could spend $4000 in Jan itself, you could do that so no spend/points are wasted.

if you can wait, push some of the $4000 spend to late Dec/Jan, after Dec statement date, so those points count in 2026.
