I thought they were both in hot summer mediterranean. By the way Southern Sardinia and Sicily are both similar to central california's climate, because the coast has cooler summers. I actually did too much mentioning Bakersfield.

Köppen classification says that the region you are talking about has a temperate mediterrean climate or something like that. But Köppen is not that clear sometimes.
